Power Trend
· v1.0.1
About
Your average power, and how close it is to the next watt.
Average power goes stiff late in a ride. At two hours it can take a minute of
hard work to move one watt, and the number gives you nothing in between.
Power Trend puts a bar under the number showing how far through the current
watt you are. Ride above your average and the bar fills; when it fills, the
number ticks up and the bar resets. Ride below and it drains, and the number
steps down when it empties. An arrow says which way it is heading, and an
optional countdown tells you how long until the next change at your current
output.
Garmin's own averagePower is rounded to whole watts, and a value quantised to
1 W cannot express where you are between two watts, which is the only thing
the bar has to show. So Power Trend integrates power itself, accumulating
joules against timer time. That gives full precision, and counting the zeros
while the timer runs is exactly what the Edge's own Avg Power does, so the
number agrees with the built-in field.
SETTINGS
Step size 0.5, 1, 5 or 10 W. Late in a hard ride 1 W steps get slow;
that is what 5 and 10 are for
Direction arrow off, vs current average, or vs a target power you set
Bar colour blue progress, or green/orange by trend
Steady number anti-flicker deadband, on by default
Optional rows time to next step, target value, units, current power
The field measures the slot you give it and shows what fits, from a full-width
field down to a thin strip.
