Movement at the right time
· v1.3.12
About
■ The Problem ■
Our metabolism is designed for continuous movement — interrupted only by sleep and brief rest. Modern life has inverted this pattern: hours of stagnation, interrupted by occasional exercise. The result is metabolic stagnation — glucose remains unburned, insulin chronically elevated, mitochondrial capacity slowly declines.
The problem is not missing exercise. It is missing movement throughout the day.
■ The Idea ■
Motion Flow reminds you every 45 minutes — but not blindly. It reads your current autonomic nervous system status according to Baevsky, your recovery timer, and the circadian course of the day. From this emerges an individual recommendation: How intense should movement be right now? An exhausted nervous system receives a gentle invitation. A recovered system receives a stronger impulse.
Movement feels easy — because it comes at the right time, in the right dose.
■ What You See ■
On the watch face: a context-dependent movement impulse — with an intensity recommendation that adapts to your state. Three colored rings show the week at a glance: inner blue (SlowFuel, sub-VT₁), middle red (grey-zone — deliberately an anti-goal), outer yellow (brief vigorous bursts). Weekly rhythm replaces daily quotas.
• Green signal: You are recovered, the circadian moment is favorable — move with joy
• Muted signal: Your nervous system shows strain — gentle activation instead of stress
• Evening: The circadian rhythm is respected — no agitating impulses before sleep
■ Under the Hood ■
What your body knows: The stress level based on Baevsky delivers a real-time score of your nervous system. Motion Flow adapts the recommendation — a system under stress needs different movement than a recovered one. Added to this is the circadian course: movement at the wrong time drives cortisol and promotes inflammation.
What remains: Daily movement impulses add up to something no single exercise block achieves: continuous GLUT4 activation without insulin, stable mitochondrial function, low inflammation markers. Motion Flow builds the aerobic base that BreathSpan precisely controls during running — and that Inner Compass makes visible in metabolic age.
The bigger story: You are the advocate of a superorganism that needs movement like air. Every 45 minutes a small gesture — not a command from above, but an accommodation from within. And it doesn't always have to be the same: a few therapeutic steps, a short SlowFuel strength snack, a run at VT₁ or a brief vigorous burst — each one resets the impulse. Behind every one of these answers stand billions of cells waiting for this signal. Health happens in the in-between spaces — when you stand up, walk, stretch, breathe.
The theoretical foundation: [My Essential Health Compass](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GH2M5RPK ) — how lack of movement drives the seven vicious cycles of aging and how targeted movement interrupts them.

What's new
With version 1.3.0, activity tracking switches to the Seiler polarized model with personalized zones derived from your heart-rate reserve (HRR, automatically read from your Garmin HR-zone profile): Z1 SlowFuel (sub-VT₁, no glycolytic activation — inner ring blue), Z2 Grey-Zone (junk-miles, anti-goal — middle ring red), Z3 Vigorous (HIIT/SIT — outer ring yellow). Weekly goals replace daily goals; Z2 is an explicit anti-goal. The bigger picture: every movement reminder is an invitation to draw from the full healthy portfolio — therapeutic walking, a MAF-SlowFuel strength snack (squats, push-ups), a short MAF-Run at VT₁, or a brief vigorous burst. Even the minimum (~200 steps to clear the MoveBar) counts as a valid response. Any of these resets the 45-min reminder — a conscious pick beats default steps.
With version 1.2.0, movement prompts are diversified and now consider individual factors like time of day, stress level, and personal sleep times for more suitable activity recommendations. Intensity suggestions range from active recovery to maximum load, and sensitivity can be adjusted via the readiness threshold in settings.
With version 1.1.12, the display of the fulfillment level of the distance goal in kilometers for the last 7 days has been added. Underachievements and overachievements are each shown as a red line to the left of the daily segment. In the settings, you can define the desired weekly kilometers and the type of sport.
In version 1.1.7 of the Motion Time app, intensity minutes at VT1/HR FATmax are locally calculated on all devices. This enables the display of intensity minutes even on devices that do not capture Garmin intensity minutes. As a result, it is now necessary to set the heart rate thresholds for moderate, FATmax, and vigorous activities in the settings according to your preferences.
