Off Course
· v1.1.1.a
About
This is a data field that alerts you if you are off course. Off course means too far from a previously created course that you are following in an activity. The off course trigger distance you set may not be the same as for Garmin’s built in Off Course Warning.
You add the data field to an activity. Once you have passed Garmin’s built in Off Course Warning threshold it shows you how far off course you are and alerts you if you are too far away.
When you follow a course with the activity the data field will sound a tone if you are more than a minimum and less than a maximum distance from the course. The threshold distances are in metres or yards depending on your device settings and can be changed from the data field’s settings. The defaults are 50 & 200.
When you have gone beyond the maximum distance from your course the alerts will stop. They will not restart until you have returned to less than the minimum and gone past it again.
You can also set the alerts to stop after a timeout period. When you set the timeout, a value 0f 0 means don’t timeout, values less than 10 are taken to be minutes and larger values to be seconds.
You can choose your preferred alert sound from the device’s built-in tones. Be aware these tones are also used by Garmin’s firmware. This means you could choose a tone that has another meaning as well.
If your device supports vibration you can optionally set it to vibrate as well as playing a tone.
You can use the data field’s settings page to disable the alerts so the data field just shows how far off course your watch thinks you are.
Bear in mind that although you can set it to warn you if it thinks you are only slightly off course, GPS accuracy is not generally good enough to support small distances.
Thank you Garmin user @Miguel for suggesting this app and helping me test it.
