About

-Summary This datafield estimates %VO2max / %VDOT from heart rate and running speed. You can also check the chart, the average of the entire workout, and the average of each lap from Garmin Connect. %VO2max is the ratio of oxygen consumption during exercise to maximum oxygen uptake, and is said to be useful as an indicator of exercise intensity. You can also estimate and compare %VDOT from your running speed by setting VDOT, which is famous in "Daniels' Running Formula". The meaning of %VDOT is the same as that of %VO2max, which is an indicator of exercise intensity and ideally matches. In "Daniels' Running Formula, Third Edition," the intensity of each pace is defined using %VO2max as follows E-pace: 59%-74%. M-pace: 75%-84%. T-space: 83%-88%. I-space: 95%-100%. R-pace: 105%-120%. However, since running speed is greatly affected by wind, ups and downs, shoes, etc., %VO2max is more useful for uniformly evaluating exercise intensity. The following equation is used to estimate %VO2max from the literature [1]. %HRreserve = 1.10 * %VO2max - 6.1 The formula for VDOT is the following formula from [2]. %VO2max = 0.8 + 0.1894393 * exp(-0.012788 * T) + 0.2989558 * exp(-0.1932605 * T) VO2 = -4.6 + 0.182258 * V + 0.000104 * V^2 VDOT = VO2 / %VO2max %VDOT = VO2 / VDOT -How to use 1) Installation Download from Garmin Connect IQ Store and sync with your device 2) App settings Select your device from Garmin Connect Mobile (smartphone app) / Garmin Express (PC app) Select "Activities & Applications" → "Data Items" → "Exercise Intensity Estimator" → Settings Set the parameters according to the user's condition (see below). 3) Device settings Select "Run Settings" → "Training Page" → "Data Items" → "Connect IQ" → "Exercise Intensity Estimator 4) Workout execution The %VO2max / %VDOT will be displayed in the set data field. After the workout is finished, click "Finish". -Settings --Display Select the value to be displayed in the data field (%VO2max or %VDOT). You can check both charts, statistics, and per-lap values from Garmin Connect because both values are saved regardless of which you select. --Use HRmax Select "from user profile" if you want to use the maximum heart rate set in the device. Select "from value" if you want to enter the value directly. --HRmax Only available when "from value" is selected in the above option. --Use Rest HR Select "from user profile" to use the resting heart rate set in the device. The priority is the average resting heart rate of the last 7 days. To enter the value directly, select "from value". --Rest HR Valid only when "from value" is selected in the above option. --Use VDOT If you know your VDOT value, select "from VDOT value". Select "from Race Time" if you want to calculate from your race time. --Distance Enter the race distance to be used for VDOT calculation in meters. Enter the race distance to be used for the Distance VDOT calculation in meters only when "from Race Time" is selected. --Hour / Minute / Second Enter the race time corresponding to the above race distance. Valid only when "from Race Time" is selected. -Reference [1] Swain, David P., et al.
