About

DESCRIPTION BigScreen is a ConnectIQ datafield for Edge devices that provides many screens and many datafields in a highly configurable way. The goal is to make better use of the screen resolution, colors and processing power of modern Edge cycling computers, while retaining the familiar grid layout. Essentially, it replaces the Garmin datafield user interface. This is one datafield to rule them all! USER GUIDE The Big Screen user guide can be found at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-7Zajlyc4DDDradUaZ-tOWKJLMn-qLtE7m8tJOh8Xa4 BUY ME A COFFEE? I've been using Garmin devices for a long time and started writing ConnectIQ apps to provide some missing features that I wanted for my training and racing. I think they will be useful to other Garmin users so I've been releasing them through the ConnectIQ store. If you would like to support this work, please feel free to buy me a coffee. It would be much appreciated! https://buymeacoffee.com/biketelemetry FEATURES The main features are: - Screens and datafields are configured from your phone through ConnectIQ settings. - Screen settings can be saved into up to 10 slots. - Supports up to 10 Edge data screens using clones of the BigScreen datafield. - The layout of each screen can be chosen from a list of standard layouts or customized. - Up to 18 datafields per screen using 6 rows x 3 datafields. - Each datafield can be selected from 70+ metrics. - Datafields use the largest font to fill the available space. - Configurable zones and background colors for Power, HR and Custom datafields. - Short or long labels per datafield with optional icons. - Settings persist across BigScreen updates (but not from beta to product unfortunately) Install the BigScreen datafield using the ConnectIQ app, and add BigScreen to an activity profile. You can find BigScreen inside the list of ConnectIQ datafields. Ideally, install BigScreen on a new Edge screen using just 1 datafield. BigScreen's settings can then be used to subdivide the Edge Screen into as many datafields as you want. Alternatively, BigScreen can work inside any Edge screen layout, and you can subdivide within the limitations of the available space. There are an additional 9 clones of the BigScreen datafield available in the ConnectIQ store. These are called “Big Screen 1” through “Big Screen 9”. You can install multiple clones to get independent copies of BigScreen that can have different settings. They can be installed on multiple Edge data screens in an activity profile so that you can select between them using the up/down buttons on your device. RELEASE NOTES The beta program has finished. Thank you for testing and your feedback. It is recommended that the beta version is uninstalled from your Edge device before installing version 1.0. This will clean up some storage that is no longer used. Note that settings are not preserved from the beta to version 1.0. The beta had a slot-based multi-screen feature. This has been removed, and multi-screen is now supported using BigScreen clones. BigScreen dynamically optimizes the datafield fonts to fit inside the available space. However, screen size and resolution varies by device so not all combinations are usable. Memory availability varies by device and memory usage depends on the configuration, particularly the number of datafields and number of different fonts. If device memory is exceeded the ConnectIQ app will typically fail with a triangle icon, though this does not impact other screens and activity recording. The settings have changed significantly and the beta settings will not work with the latest version. Thanks! Note that the slot mechanism was removed in version 1.7 to save memory for new features.
