About

The Kiloschmenzer is a unit that combines horizontal distance and vertical gain into one unit. It does this by adding the user's distance covered (in Kilometers) and vertical gain (in meters/100). This creates a single number summarizing the distance and elevation gain of a route, which number, for many runners, is comparable to the equivalent distance on flat-land in kilometers. The KSch is named in honor of the great South American runner Karen "Súrfiturf" Schmenzer. If your watch is set to use Miles instead of Kilometers, a scaling factor of 1/1.609 will be applied to the Kiloschmenzer calculation, but this will not be indicated in any data field labels.
