About
A modern watch face with deep, near-black backgrounds. Eight data fields you assign yourself, three ready-made designs, and everything changeable on the watch itself. Free.
HOW TO CHANGE IT
Long press the face, then Customize. Design, background, colour, layout and typeface are all set on the watch itself, no phone needed. The eight data slots are the one thing you assign in the Connect app, under the watch face settings.
THREE DESIGNS, OR BUILD YOUR OWN
Design 1 is the original: the eclipse background in blue. Design 2 pairs the relief background with lime and a noticeably larger time. Design 3 combines the night background with violet. Or switch to Custom and set background, colour and layout independently: three backgrounds, three colours and two layouts. The typeface is a separate choice again and works with any of them.
FOUR TYPEFACES, ONE LOOK EACH
The typeface changes the whole face, not just the clock: time, data values, labels and date all switch together. Saira Condensed is the original. Saira Condensed Light is the same shape drawn lighter. Anton is heavier and reads from further away. Saira ExtraCondensed is narrower and leaves more room around the time.
EIGHT DATA SLOTS, STILL UNCLUTTERED
Four compact fields above the time, four larger ones below, and seventeen metrics to choose from. Dense when you want it, quiet when you don't — every slot can also be switched off. Among the metrics a weekly distance that syncs from Garmin Connect, counted per calendar week, so activities recorded on other devices count too.
ALWAYS-ON THAT STAYS READABLE
Plenty of AMOLED faces go so dim you have to turn your wrist to read the time. In always-on mode Umbra drops to time and date in white on black, keeps the numerals large, and shifts position slightly each minute to protect the display. It stays well inside Garmin's burn-in limits.
WHAT THE RINGS AND MARKS MEAN
The arc at the top is your step progress towards the daily goal. The marks at the bottom are the Garmin move bar.
GOOD TO KNOW
Runs on 40 round AMOLED Garmins. No trial period, no unlock code, nothing to buy later. The three distance fields show the number without a unit; they follow whatever your watch is set to, kilometres or miles. Thousands separator follows your watch language by default. If you want a different one, for example the apostrophe used in Switzerland, set it manually in the Connect app. English and German; other system languages fall back to English. Typefaces: Saira Condensed, Saira Condensed Light, Saira ExtraCondensed and Anton, all SIL Open Font License 1.1.
What's new
You can now change the typeface. Four options, and the choice applies to the whole face, not just the clock — time, data fields, labels and date all switch together. Set it on the watch under Customize, or in the Connect app.
