PumpFoil Runs
· v01.02.00
About
Count your pump foil runs and measure every one of them, without noting
anything down.
Start the app, wait for GPS, go. Nothing to set, nothing to mark. One buzz at
the end of an attempt if it fell short, two if it counted.
WHAT SETS IT APART
When the flight stops you fall, and your wrist goes under water at the exact
moment it should be measuring: around 20 % of positions are missing, always at
the end of runs. Everything here is built around that hole — a clock
independent of GPS, and a run ending read from heading, not from speed alone.
The start is read at the wrist: effort on the dock leads the speed-up by about
five seconds, which no speed threshold can see. That is also what makes failed
launches countable — the effort happened, the speed did not follow.
Classes follow your declared level, from beginner to top: you move the scale as
you progress, instead of relabelling your runs one by one.
ON THE WATCH
Live speed, run distance and duration. Your last run, one press away. Distance
and time classes. Totals, averages and maxima. The history, and the full detail
of any run.
IN YOUR FILE
A normal Garmin activity, plus fields specific to pump foiling: distance,
duration, classes, pump count, exit speed, flight consistency. And three-axis
acceleration at 100 Hz, which pump cadence analysis needs. About 5 MB per hour,
switchable off in the settings.
SETTINGS
Only one really matters: your level. The rest — thresholds, launch burst,
heading reversal — is calibrated and best left alone.
If you want to count only what starts from one particular spot, set a start
point from the menu. It is optional, and an entry in the same menu clears it.
BUTTONS
SELECT stops and offers resume, save or discard. BACK closes the run in
progress. MENU (long press) opens the settings. UP and DOWN move through the
screens.
WORTH KNOWING
Pump counting is still experimental. The end of a run is the weak link, and that
is structural: about two seconds of error against hand-marked endings.
Devices: fenix 8, 8 Pro and 8 Solar, fenix 9, 9 Pro and 9 Pro Solar, fenix E,
fenix 7, 7S and 7X with their Pro and Solar editions, epix (Gen 2) and epix Pro
(Gen 2) — so also the quatix 7, tactix 7, Enduro 2 and D2 Mach 1 Pro, which
share those profiles. English and French.
What's new
VERSION 01.02.00
Nothing to set before you go.
Until now the app waited for you to place a start point from the menu, and
counted nothing until you had: a whole session could be recorded without a
single run. Nobody guesses that a counter needs a gesture first in order to
work.
It now detects as soon as it has GPS. Setting a point is still possible, and
now does one thing only: accept starts taken around one particular place. A
"Clear start point" entry appears as soon as a point exists, to undo it.
The radius of that zone goes from 40 to 100 m. The sweep that picked 40 measured
the distance from the wrong reference — the first point of the file, often the
car park — instead of the point you place. Redone properly over six sessions and
104 runs: 40 m lost one run and shortened two best distances, 100 loses none.
No detection threshold changes. A file produced by this version stays comparable
to earlier ones.
SINCE 01.00.00
• Sixteen more devices: the whole fenix 7 range, the fenix 8 Pro, the non-Pro
fenix 9, the fenix E, the epix (Gen 2) and the epix Pro (Gen 2).
• The pump counter counts oscillations, calibrated against a second watch
mounted on the board.
• Reliability fixes: the app version written from the start of a session rather
than only at the end of a run, the end-of-run screen reworked, the
runs/attempts ratio moved to the Totals screen.
