About

Dedicated surfing app for garmin watches. If you find this app useful, please consider donating - I no longer have a usable garmin watch to develop with but you can help keep this app going by visiting- https://gofund.me/778d0248 and helping towards the cost of a replacement watch, Thanks for your support! ***note*** Garmin have introduced their own surfing app on the "Garmin instinct surf" and broken the summary view on Garmin connect for activities saved as 'surfing' by other apps, you may have spent hundreds on your watch but Garmin say if you want to surf you must buy their new watch. This app has not changed and will still function the same as always and mark your waves as laps For a more detailed view of your surf track recorded by this app you can export the track from garmin connect as a .TCX or .GPX file and upload it to another site for more detailed analysis. Adds surfing as a trackable sport for your watch and saves the activity with the correct type No complicated setup options, simple user interface showing all the info you need when you need it- Big clock - time of day for tides, appointments etc. Timer - for heat timing, wave counting etc. Shows your total number of waves, total riding time, stats for last wave and wait time between waves. **Also includes optimisations for normal watches and touchscreen devices which don't work well when wet** NOTE: for touchscreen devices the screen will be locked during the app (wet screen and wet fingers) so there is some difference in how the button works which is explained at the bottom. Auto-detect waves: The app will automatically judge when you are riding a wave based on your speed, if your moving above a certain speed for a certain minimum time then it will record a wave and add the data to the saved activity totals. The minimum speed and time can be set in the app settings from your garmin connect app on your phone. If you have problems with this it can also be completely disabled in the settings and you can also record your wave manually by hitting the lap button, (manually recorded waves will be added to the total but won't include the distance surfed or speed etc.) Initially the app will wait for a good enough GPS signal and once it has a good enough lock hit start or enter to begin recording. The main screen show your clock, total time, total waves, and heart rate. You can use the up/down buttons to view the second screen which shows total time riding, how long since the last ride, and distance/time for the previous wave Hit start/enter again to open the exit menu where you can save your session or discard it and exit. For touchscreen devices the screen will be disabled once you begin recording to stop it going nuts in the water, the second data screen can be accessed by clicking the side button, it will show for 5 seconds before returning to the main screen. While the second data screen is showing you can save and exit by by clicking the side button once without holding it down while the second screen is showing. NOTE ON GPS ACCURACY: make sure your watch is set to "every second" not "smart recording", this should give a more complete track GPS does not work through water, so recorded tracks will not be exact, e.g when paddling your arm is often under water and loses signal. Also note if you use the auto track waves feature it will work better if the GPS has a good signal, so while you sit waiting for waves mind to not sit with your wrist under water all the time, especially if you have a wetsuit over the watch already- you want it to keep the best signal it can get! The settings for wave detection may need to be set differently depending where you surf and how you surf, in decent quality waves with long rides you will find good results by setting the minimum speed and time higher, if you surf sloppy onshore crap, short rides or you fall off a lot you'll need to reduce those setting
