SportClimb Tracker
· v2.6
About
Track your sport climbing sessions directly from your wrist. SportClimb Tracker automatically detects when you start climbing and measures route height using your watch's barometric altimeter — no GPS required.
Please note: automatic height measurement relies on your watch's built-in barometric altimeter. On devices without a barometric altimeter, automatic route detection and height tracking are not available — you can still log routes manually and enter the height yourself.
A note from the developer: this app is still in active development, and I'd love your input. The first few sessions can take some getting used to, so if you run into anything confusing or have ideas for improvement, please reach out to me directly at [email protected] — your feedback is exactly what helps me turn this into a truly great climbing app. And of course, if you enjoy using it, a review would mean a lot!
Before use, read the manual at: https://sportclimbanalytics.com/app
After your session, sync your watch with the Garmin Connect app, then visit https://sportclimbanalytics.com/ to explore your climbing data — progress charts, success rates, and wall style breakdowns.
Goal: get the climbing grade shown as a column in Garmin Connect. Garmin has acknowledged the bug preventing this, but it needs more support to get prioritized. You can help: open the link below, sign in with your free Garmin account, and click the "+1" button on the report. The more votes it gets, the more likely Garmin is to fix it.

DURING A SESSION
Starting a route
The app detects climbing automatically when the altitude rises more than 1.5 m — the watch vibrates and plays a tone to confirm. You can also start manually by pressing the Lap button. (Automatic detection requires a watch with a barometric altimeter; on other devices, use the Lap button to start each route manually.)
Stopping a route
Press Lap again to finish the route. A screen appears to log grade, result, type, style and height. The measured height is pre-filled automatically. Press Save to confirm.
Cancelling a route
Press Down while climbing to cancel the active route without saving it.
Ending the session
Press Start to open the session menu. Choose Save to send the session to Garmin Connect, or Discard to delete it.
SETTINGS
Open settings via the Menu button (long-press Up).
Grading system → French / UIAA / USA / SA
Default type → Lead / Toprope / Warmup
Auto-detect → On / Off
Location → Gym / Board / Crag / Boulder
Touchscreen → On / Off
Set your Location before starting your session — it is saved with the activity in Garmin Connect.
What's new
Version 2.6
New optional "Extended logging" setting. When on, you can also record the set number, sub number and build month indoors, or the area and route number outdoors. The watch recognises a route you climbed before and shows your previous attempt, and warns if you pick On Sight/Flash on a route you already tried.
Version 2.5.1
GPS location now records a short track at the start of a session, so your climbs appear on the map in Garmin Connect. GPS also switches off more quickly to save battery (as soon as a fix is found, with a safety timeout).
Version 2.5
GPS location is now only confirmed (green) on a real, current fix. A coarse or last-known position is shown in amber with "~" and is no longer saved, so a stale (e.g. home) location never ends up in your activity.
Version 2.4
New: Optional GPS location (Settings) records where your session started, so climbs appear on the map in Garmin Connect. Off by default;
Version 2.3
Bug fix: The "Log route?" prompt no longer gets stuck repeating — it now appears once per climb, and a new Cancel route option lets you dismiss a route detected by mistake.
Version 2.2
Resume later
Press START during a session and choose Resume later to pause, leave the app, and use your watch for other things (maps, navigation). Reopen the app anytime to continue adding routes to your session.
Interrupted sessions are recovered
If the app is closed unexpectedly (for example when you open a system shortcut mid-session), it no longer crashes and your session is kept. On the next launch you'll be asked whether to resume it.
Time screen
A new screen shows the current time and elapsed session time — handy since the watch face isn't visible while the app is open.
Activity type matches where you climb
Sessions are logged to Garmin Connect with the right sub-type based on your location setting: Gym → Indoor Climbing, Board & Boulder → Bouldering, Crag → Rock Climbing (outdoor).
Default height
Set a default route height in Settings, used as the starting value in the log screen when no height was measured — so you don't scroll from scratch every time.
Clearer height graphs
Altitude graph shows relative height climbed (0 to peak), not raw barometric altitude.
The main screen shows the highest point reached during a route, with the climbed height marked "+" to distinguish it from your absolute altitude.
More accurate top grade
Your top grade (on the stats screen and in Garmin Connect) now only counts On Sight and Flash ascents.
Log reminder
After finishing a route, the app prompts you to log it. This can be turned off in Settings.
Page indicator
Dots on the left edge show the multiple screens available during a session.
Version 2.1
Auto-log prompt
After completing a route and returning to ground level, the app automatically vibrates and asks "Log route?" after 10 seconds. If you don't respond, it repeats every 30 seconds. Tap Yes to log the route immediately, or No to keep the route active. The prompt can be turned off in Settings → Log prompt.
Peak height on main screen
While a route is active, the main screen now shows the highest point reached on the current route instead of your current height. This way you always see a meaningful number — even when standing at the bottom.
Heart rate zone graph
The heart rate graph now shows coloured zone bands (blue → green → yellow → orange → red) behind the line, plus your minimum and maximum BPM values recorded during the session.
Relative altitude graph
The altitude graph now shows height relative to where the route started (0 m at the bottom, peak at the top), rather than absolute barometric altitude.
Accurate top grade
The top grade shown on the stats screen and saved to Garmin Connect now only counts On Sight and Flash ascents. DNF, Hang Dog, Redpoint and Sandbagged no longer affect the top grade.
