The Data Field UTM100 displays the current UTM/MGRS location using largest possible fonts. Only the 'essential' digits are displayed.
UTM100 is designed to be included in GPS enabled activities. A topo map including UTM or MGRS reference grid should be available.
EXAMPLE
If UTM100 displays "E58.51 N79.19" it means that your present location is 58.51km east and 79.19km north of the origin of the current 100km X 100km UTM square. You can identify your location on the map using simple interpolation in the UTM grid as illustrated in the figure below. The grid resolution on the map is typical 1km x 1km and each grid line is marked with the corresponding UTM location.
UTM AND MGRS
UTM and MGRS are identical coordinates within each 100km X 100km square. (MGRS is a variant of UTM) For more information about UTM and MGRS:

ACCURACY OF LOCATION
The accuracy of your location is determined by the Garmin device and the local signal strength. The location presented by UTM100 is established by only using intrinsic Garmin API functions. However, on output some digits have been suppressed in order to save space on your display. No third part coordinate calculations are applied. Garmin provides the following parameter describing the accuracy of the current position.
0 = not available
1 = last known
2 = poor
3 = usable
4 = good
If the signal accuracy is less than 3 the position will be displayed using red characters. If the size of your data field is sufficiently large the actual accuracy flag will be displayed in the field. E.g. "Sig 3/4" corresponds to "usable" accuracy.
For practical reasons UTM100 will only display your position with respect to a 10m X 10m subgrid. (Truncation of digits, not rounding) Depending on the signal strength your position may not be accurate to this resolution.
At the border line between two UTM zones it is nice to know which UTM zones the coordinate is referring to. Hence the tag for UTM zone is also displayed. (E.g. "32V")
The WGS84 ellipsoid is now commonly used to model the UTM coordinate system. Current UTM northing at a given point can be more than 200 meters different from old systems. As a consequence please select the ellipsoid definition in your Garmin device to match the ellipsoid definition on your map.
IMPORTANT NOTE
If UTM100 constantly displays "E00.00 N00.00" you should set the position format to UTM UPS. You only have to do this once and you may modify this setting afterwards.

Garmin has confirmed that this is a firmware bug soon to be fixed.
SUPPORT
More Garmin devices may be supported on request. UTM100 has been field tested on my Fenix-3 for more than 200km hiking in several UTM zones. For other devices I only have access to the Garmin device simulator. It would be nice to know if someone are willing to field test UTM100 on other devices.
