About
8-bit nostalgia for your wrist. Build the dial, pixel by pixel. Free during development period.
Retro Pixel is a watch face for the kid who grew up trading carts at recess and the adult who still has a CRT in the basement. Five era-correct palettes re-skin the whole dial: DMG handheld green, 8-bit console red and white, 16-bit Workbench blue and orange, 1980s terminal magenta, and a new mid-90s early-3D indigo and teal. Chunky pixel hands, hand-authored bitmap numerals, an animated mascot at 12, optional CRT scanlines. Every diagonal is deliberately stair-stepped. It looks like your watch IS the game.
Build your own dial. Seven readout positions around the face are each yours to set from the phone app, and every one picks from the same menu of ten things to show: nothing, steps, heart rate, calories, floors, battery percent, day-and-date, distance, a game-style score date, or a segmented battery bar. Want steps front and centre, your pulse top-right, the date lower-left, a battery meter on the side? Done. Want a clean dial with one stat? Turn the rest off. One pixel engine draws every metric at every spot and re-skins with your palette.
Make it yours, down to the pixels. Pick your hands: chunky blocky pixels, a clean baton, or a little rocket. Pick your hour markers: numerals, pips, or diamonds. Pick a rim: clean, a minute-tick track, or a segmented bezel. Pick a backdrop: a flat dial, a twinkling starfield, a side-scroll ground strip, or both at once. A walker orbits the perimeter as you rack up steps, or trade it for a loading ring that closes the loop toward your goal, or run both. Bored of the walker? Swap it for an alien, a rocket, a runner, or a robot.
Set a step goal anywhere from 1000 to 50000. Hit it and the palette flashes a GOAL celebration. On Christmas, Halloween, and Pi Day the mascot quietly swaps to a holiday variant. When the battery drops below 5 percent in always-on mode, the dial fades to an era-appropriate Game Over screen, and the time stays on screen the whole way down. Discreet pixel status pips sit in a row below the 12 - a set alarm, Do Not Disturb, a disconnected phone, unread notifications - each its own toggle, on the live face and (dimmed) the always-on screen.
AOD-safe by default: the always-on path renders only burn-in-friendly elements, with animation and overlays suppressed in sleep.
What's new
V1.3.0 - Your dial reads the sky now.
NEW: the weather readout draws the weather. Sun, cloud, rain, snow, storm, fog, wind — each one a chunky little sprite that sits where the label used to, with the temperature right below it. Drawn pixel by pixel, re-skinned by your palette, like everything else here.
NEW: more of the forecast, if you want it. Any readout position can show what it feels like out there, the chance of rain, or the humidity.
NEW: Stress, alongside Body Battery. How hard the day is pushing back, next to how much you have left in the tank.
And if you never noticed them arrive: Body Battery and temperature landed in the last update and deserved a better introduction than they got. They are readouts like any other — set them from the phone app, at any of the seven positions.
V1.2.0 - Body battery and temperature added
V1.1.1 +5 devices
V1.1.0 - Watch the goal fill up, and your pixel pet cheer you on.
NEW: a "Chunky fill bar" progress style. A thick two-tone arc rides the outer dial and fills clockwise from 12 as you close on your daily step goal, with your chosen character riding the leading edge. Pick it under Motion, progress style - alongside the walker, the loading ring, or both.
NEW: a goal celebration from the mascot. Cross your daily step goal and the little pixel pal at 12 hops with excitement while sparkles twinkle at its sides - a quick, burn-in-safe cheer.
Both are pure pixel motion. No new permissions, still always-on-safe.
