Rec Light for Insta360 GO
· v1.2.1
About
See whether your Insta360 GO is recording — right on your Edge's data screen. No pairing, no phone, no extra hardware. n.b. this is fully tested for GO 3s - other versions (Ultra) are being confirmed.
Rec Light passively listens to the camera's own Bluetooth broadcast and shows a live status:
• REC (red) while the camera is recording
• IDLE when it isn't
• LOST — with an alert tone — if the camera's signal vanishes mid-recording (battery death or thermal shutdown), so you find out in seconds, not at the end of the ride
• A tone when recording ends, so an accidental stop never goes unnoticed
Beneath the status, the field shows your TOTAL RECORDING TIME for the ride — counting while REC, holding while idle, resetting with a new ride — so you always know how much footage you actually have.
DISPLAY ONLY: starting and stopping recording stays on the camera itself.
(Current Garmin Edge firmware cannot open a Bluetooth control connection to this camera — this app deliberately needs no connection at all.)
SETTINGS (via the Garmin Connect app):
• Camera serial — pin the field to YOUR camera (on the camera: Settings, then Camera Info); recommended for group rides
• Alert tones on/off
• Demo mode for previewing the display
• Have the "Rec" icon rotate with another field
COMPATIBILITY: Insta360 GO 3S. Tested with camera firmware v8.x — a future Insta360 firmware update could change the broadcast this app reads; if the field stops tracking after a camera update, check for an app update. PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED WITH OTHER DEVICE COMPATIBILITY!
This is an independent, unofficial app. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or supported by Insta360 or Garmin. Insta360 and GO 3S are trademarks of their respective owners, used only to indicate compatibility.
What's new
v. 1.2.1
Re-testing support for GO Ultra
v. 1.2.0
New: optionally alternate the cell between Rec Light and a metric of your
choice (speed, heart rate, ride time, distance, clock, cadence or power)
every 1-3 seconds — with a red corner dot on the metric pane while
recording, and an instant switch back to Rec Light whenever recording
starts, stops or the camera is lost.
Added devices: Edge 1030 Plus, Edge 1030, 830, 530, Edge Explore, and
Forerunner 970 (as a data field for any activity). On older Edges, status
updates can lag a few seconds.
Experimental support for other Insta360 GO-family cameras (e.g. GO Ultra):
the field now recognises any GO-family broadcast, not just the GO 3S by
name. If you try it with a GO Ultra, please send feedback via the store.
Diagnostics line now shows the camera's name.
