About

**PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS** TrainingEdge is a complete full screen workout Data Field designed for cyclists. It is designed to be easy to view and has the ability to display both the primary and secondary targets. Both can display the min and max target values along with the current instantaneous and the current lap values. If there is no secondary step the instantaneous and lap values will be displayed for other parameters instead. TrainingEdge also displays the primary and secondary targets for the next step. The following devices are supported: Edge 530 Edge 540 / Solar Edge 830 Edge 840 / Solar Edge 1030 Edge 1030 Plus Edge 1040 Edge 1050 Current FTP and Power Curve values need to be configured via Connect IQ Store app, the Garmin Connect app, or Garmin Express. The following power curve values are supported (5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 1m, 2m, 3m, 5m, 10m, 12m, 20m, 30m & 1 hour). Note the Garmin Connect APP allows you to configure workout steps with a greater variety of Power Curve values however TrainingEdge only supports the ones above. IMPORTANT. The following section describes the information that has to be added to the notes section of the workout files to ensure that secondary targets (and power curve targets) will be displayed correctly: As the primary target power curve values are not passed to the APP it is necessary to add this information to the Notes field of any workout steps where the primary target is a percentage of a power curve value. For example: If the primary target of the workout step is a percentage of a Power Curve value then the duration of the required power curve time and the percentage of this power curve value need to be added to the notes. This should be in the format “Pri:1200:0090” where 1200 is power curve time in seconds i.e. 20 minutes, and 0090 is the percentage of power curve value i.e. 90%. It is important that the exact format is used, quotes are not required, but each numerical entry needs to be 4 characters long. Additionally as there is no API support for the secondary target information, if there is a secondary target this too needs to be added to the notes field in a similar manner. The format for this should be “Sec:0080:0090:XXX” where XXX depends upon the secondary target type (this should be either RPM, BPM, SPD, PWR, PWC or FTP). Where: RPM = Cadence BPM = Heart Rate (either Min/Max Heart Rate or Heart Rate Zone) SPD = Speed PWR = Power (either Min/Max power, or Power Zone) PWC = Power Curve (As a Percentage of a specific Power Curve value) FTP = Power (As a Percentage of FTP) For example: Sec:0080:0090:RPM = Secondary target of Cadence (between 80 and 90 RPM) Sec:0140:0160:BPM = Secondary target of Heart Rate range (between 140-160 BPM) Sec:0015:0020:SPD = Secondary target of Speed (between 15-20 (mph or kph)). Sec:0200:0300:PWR = Secondary target of Power (between 200-300W) Sec:0030:0090:PWC = Secondary target of Power (90% of 30s Power Curve) Sec:0060:0075:FTP = Secondary target of Power (between 60 and 75% of FTP) If the secondary target is a Power or Heart Rate Zone, the first parameter should indicate the Zone number and the 2nd parameter should be zero. e.g. Sec:0002:0000:BPM = Secondary target of Heart Rate Zone 2 Sec:0004:0000:PWR = Secondary target of Power Zone 4 The notes section may include both a Pri and a Sec parameter. i.e. If the primary target is a Power Curve value and the step also includes a secondary target. Additionally if there are any specific notes you wish to display during a particular step you can add them to the notes section using the format below: Text:Notes Go Here: The note will appear on the top line during that step, there is not much room so keep them short.. The notes section can include Pri, Sec and Text entries in any order as long as each follows the above format. i.e. Pri:1200:0090 Sec:0200:0300:PWR Text:Out of Saddle:

What's new

New in 1.1.8 Bug Fixes. Fix for not displaying the secondary target when the custom text option is also part of the step. Resolved secondary power value not being hidden when there is no secondary target in all cases. New in 1.1.7 Added support for Edge 1050 New in 1.1.6 Multiple Bug Fixes. Fixed crashes when CP or W’ settings were left empty. New in 1.1.5 Bug Fixes. Fixed crash and added robustness to the code when displaying the Summary Display, post workout. Fixed crash if W’ (J) is set to zero. New in 1.1.4 Bug Fixes. Fixed crash when workout was started and ended before TrainingEdge screen had been viewed. Fixed bug where markers did not move when there was a big difference between the min and max target values. Enhancements. Enhanced duration times for partial minutes e.g. 5:30, the main timer was correct, but the caption, and the next step descriptions would round up to the nearest minute e.g. 6 mins. This has been corrected. Improved the stability of the Summary Display screen timing. Reduced strictness in notes format. Will now accept any combination of upper or lower case characters and numerical parameters no longer need to be 4 characters long. Colon dividers are still required. i.e. Original strict format had to be Sec:0080:0090:RPM Will now accept SEC:80:90:rpm or SeC:080:90:Rpm New In 1.1.3 Bug fixes. Fixed a few reported crashes, including where the app would crash when the Minimum and Maximum target values were set to the same value. New Features. 1.1.2 Increased Size of arrow markers. Get heart rate zones from Garmin API, previously these were calculated based on Max HR. New Features. 1.1.1 Introduced a graphical display similar to that on the standard Garmin workout screen. This is selectable in the configuration and the original more textual version can still be used if preferred. Made some minor changes to the original display layout and movement of the current and lap values. Added a summary screen at the end of the workout to display the number of primary and secondary targets achieved. This screen also toggles through each workout step to show target vs the actual value achieved. Added the option to display W’Balance (Requires Critical Power and W’Prime values to be entered). If enabled it will display the current W’Bal percentage value. There is also an option to display a ‘lap’ based W’Bal percentage value. The lap value always resets to 100% at the start of each interval, which might help with pacing of a lap. Many thanks to nakan for making the source code to the amazing W' Balance (W Prime Balance) data field available, if you use or are interested in using critical power in your training you should checkout that data field. Added 3 min and 12 min power curve values. I added these as they are the values often used when testing Critical Power. Added support for Edge 540 / 540 Solar. Added support for Edge 840 / 840 Solar. Feature Requests Added a configurable option to remove the Lap values and only display the current values. Also provided the option to remove the Min/Max values. Added a configuration to select a value that will always be displayed. In the event this selectable parameter e.g. Heart Rate would not normally be displayed, for example if the current step has a primary power target and secondary cadence target, then in this case the always displayed parameter will be displayed instead of the current time. Bug Fixes and Improvements If no primary target was configured for a step then the top part of the display would show as Heart Rate but the values would stay at 0. This has been fixed and the display has been updated so that all values update correctly, the display has been updated to clearly show that there are no targets set for this step.
