About

This datafield makes it easy to keep track of the lap number. This is useful for running laps on the track, laps in a criterium, or laps in an XC/cyclocross race. No more second guessing whether you've counted correctly. The standard Garmin datafield shows the number of laps completed. On the first lap it shows zero, and on the 10th lap it shows 9. You need to remember the total number of laps, and that laps completed is "off by one". It is easy to get this wrong in the heat of competition. With LapsToGo you can choose how to view your laps by setting the lap mode to one of: 1. "Laps Completed" - same as the Garmin datafield. 2. "Lap Number" - the first lap is lap number 1, the second lap is lap number 2, etc. 3. "Partial Laps" - shows the number of laps completed including partial laps. If it says "1.5" you have completed 1.5 laps and are half-way through the second lap. 4. "Laps To Go" - the number of laps to go. If it says "2" there are 2 laps to go including the current lap. 5. "Partial Laps To Go" (default) - the number of laps to go including partial laps. If it says "1.5" there are 1.5 laps to go. 6. "Laps Completed/Total" - same as "Laps Completed" but also appends the total laps. "3/5" means that you have completed 3 laps of 5. 7. "Lap Number/Total" - same as "Lap Number" but also appends the total laps. "3/5" means that you are on lap number 3 of 5. 8. "Partial Laps/Total" - same as "Partial Laps" but also appends the total laps. "1.5/5" means that you have completed 1.5 laps, and there are 3.5 laps to go. You can choose any of these according to your preference. In my experience, "Laps To Go" is the simplest way to present the information, and "Partial Laps To Go" is even better. If you enable "Show Final Lap Notice" and you have configured the numnber of laps, then at the beginning of the final lap the display will change to "Final Lap". This can be used with any of the modes. This makes it really easy to know exactly when you are on the final lap. There is an option to change the notice - for example, translate to your language of choice or use some motivating phrase. If you want to use a "Laps To Go" mode, the "Total" feature or the "Show Final Lap Notice" message you have to configure the lap count to the number of laps in your event. These features are not available if the number of laps is set to 0, and they will not be accurate if you do not set this to the right value for your activity/event. The "Lap Length" setting is specifies the length of the lap, or you can set it to 0 if you want. This is used with the "Partial Laps" modes to compute the fraction completed of the first lap. For subsequent laps the datafield will automatically use the length of the preceding lap. This value is set in whole km and an approximate value is fine. The "Partial Lap" feature will count up or count down the partial lap in units of tenths of a lap as you progress through the lap. Regardless of how long the current lap is, it will not change into the next lap until the next lap is triggered. It will "stick" at 0.9 if incrementing or 0.1 if decrementing. You can use the standard lap features of your Garmin device to trigger laps including: 1. Manual lap trigger using the Lap Button. 2. Automatic lap triggering by position. 3. Automatic lap triggering by distance or time. You need to make sure that lap triggers are consistent with your event and triggered precisely. LapsToGo simply counts the Garmin lap triggers, it can't do any magic if the lap triggers are wrong. A typical scenario for a circuit-based race is to use automatic lap triggering by position, and let the event start automatically trigger each lap - the start, successive laps and the finish. If your course is laid out differently (e.g. special start or finish segment), you may need to adjust the lap triggers. I've been using Garmin devices for a long time and started writing ConnectIQ apps to provide some missing features that I wanted for my training and racing. I think they will be useful to other Garmin users so I've been releasing them through the ConnectIQ store. If you would like to support and encourage this work, please feel free to buy me a coffee. It would be much appreciated! https://buymeacoffee.com/biketelemetry
