TrekFreely Watch App
· v1.0.0
About
Companion app for TrekFreely (trekfreely.org), the backcountry trip-safety platform. When you head out on a TrekFreely trip, this app sends your latest vitals from your watch to the live dashboard your emergency contacts are watching — so the people who care about you can see how you are doing, not just where you are.
Shown on your trip dashboard (varies by watch model):
Heart rate, Blood oxygen (Pulse Ox), Elevation, Steps
How it works:
1: Create a trip at trekfreely.org and enable "Smart watch vitals (Garmin)".
2: Generate a pairing code under Account - Smart Watch - Watch App.
3: Enter the code in this app's settings (Garmin Connect - your device - Connect IQ apps - TrekFreely - Settings).
That's it. While a trip is active, the app sends your newest readings every 10 minutes (adjustable, 5-60) through your phone's connection.
Built for the backcountry:
Out of cell coverage? The app keeps a short queue of readings and delivers them when coverage returns, slowing down automatically in dead zones to save battery.
Between trips it backs off to occasional check-ins, and your dashboards show how long ago the last reading arrived — so a quiet stretch reads as "out of coverage," not an emergency.
Privacy first:
Your data goes only to trekfreely.org — no third parties, no ads, no analytics.
Only your newest readings are kept, briefly, while a trip is running. We never store a history of your health data.
This app collects no location data.
Unpair anytime from your TrekFreely account; the pairing code stops working immediately.
Requirements: a free TrekFreely account, a pairing code, and your watch connected to the Garmin Connect app on a phone with a data connection. TrekFreely currently supports trips in the United States.
