About
VDOT Field puts Daniels' VDOT training method on your watch during a run.
Based on the public Daniels-Gilbert (1979) formula, this data field shows everything a structured runner needs at a glance:
• Target pace — computed from your personal VDOT level (20.0–90.0, 1 decimal)
• Current pace — with adjustable smoothing (0–120 s) for steady readings
• Heart-rate zone colouring — 5 zones (Z1–Z5) from your manual lactate threshold HR (80–220 bpm), colours follow the Garmin Connect convention (Z1 gray / Z2 blue / Z3 green / Z4 orange / Z5 dark red), independent of the Daniels centre badge
• Training-zone badge — E / M / T / I / R letter in the centre, colour-coded by intensity
• Cadence on the bottom row; the final cell shows activity time, wall clock, or an estimated finish time (ETA, experimental)
• Race ETA (experimental) — projected finish time for 5K / 10K / half / full marathon / 50K / 100K, with four projection methods: uniform pace, target VDOT, live VDOT (default) and fatigue-adjusted. The target distance can be fixed or auto-upgrade as you pass each mark. Startup GPS distance jumps are detected automatically (integrated smoothed pace vs reported distance) so the estimate stays sensible from the first seconds
• Metric or imperial units — switchable in English locale; Chinese locale always metric
• English and Simplified Chinese interface

1. Add "VDOT Field" as a data field to a running activity
2. Open the field settings and enter your VDOT level and lactate threshold HR
3. Start your run — target pace updates in real time
SETTINGS OVERVIEW
• VDOT level: 200–900 (enter VDOT × 10, e.g. 455 for VDOT 45.5; default 450)
• Lactate threshold HR: 80–220 bpm (default 175)
• Background colour: white / black
• Pace smoothing window: 0–120 s (default 10)
• Motion threshold: 0–300 m/min (default 120 ≈ 7.2 km/h)
• Top-left cell: heart rate / VDOT
• Bottom-right cell: activity time / wall clock / estimated finish time (ETA, experimental)
• ETA algorithm: uniform pace / target VDOT / live VDOT (default) / fatigue-adjusted
• ETA target distance: auto-upgrade (default) or fixed 5K / 10K / half / full / 50K / 100K
• Fatigue compensation strength (algorithm 3 only): aggressive / standard / conservative
• Auto-upgrade target as each distance is passed: on / off

What's new
• NEW (experimental): race finish-time estimate (ETA) in the bottom-right cell — select "Estimated finish (ETA)" for that cell
• Six target distances: 5K, 10K, half marathon, full marathon, 50K, 100K — fixed target or automatic upgrade as you pass each distance
• Four projection methods: uniform pace, target VDOT, live VDOT (default), and fatigue-adjusted (3–5 km baseline with a pure pace-decay fatigue factor and adjustable compensation strength)
• Built on the Daniels formula with a 20-step bisection reverse lookup and a lazy row cache — steady-state frames perform no extra heavy math
• Startup GPS distance-jump protection: the smoothed pace is integrated into an independent distance and compared with the reported distance, so GPS fix convergence cannot produce an absurd estimate; display VDOT also switched to a fixed 30-min reference window to remove long-run upward drift
• ETA computes only while the bottom-right cell is set to ETA, leaving battery and performance untouched otherwise
