Locus Fit — Sprint Kayak & Canoe (Beta)

About
** LOCUS FIT IS IN BETA ** — it's stable and used daily by a competitive squad, but you may hit rough edges. Stroke-rate tuning across devices and conditions is still improving, and we ship updates frequently. Feedback goes straight to the roadmap: [email protected].
Locus Fit turns your Garmin into a sprint paddling computer. Mount the watch on your boat — reading the hull's motion directly gives stroke-rate accuracy that wrist-worn apps can't match — and get the numbers that matter for K1, K2, K4, C1 and C2 training.
WHAT YOU GET (no account needed) • Live stroke rate (SPM) tuned for sprint kayak and sprint canoe • Distance per stroke (DPS) — the efficiency number, live and in your FIT file • Pace, speed, heart rate, distance, timer • Fully customizable data screen: 1 to 6 fields, every slot your choice • Stroke-rate zone alerts: set your band, feel distinct buzzes for too fast, too slow, and back in zone • Auto Lap: a split every 100 m, 250 m, 500 m or 1 km — buzz, optional tone, and a banner with split time, total time and the split's average heart rate, with a real lap in Garmin Connect • Warmup Start: record your warmup, then start every crew member's timer from zero with one press — synced pieces on the water • Cooldown: log post-workout paddling from the save menu without diluting your main piece numbers • Optional RPE logging on save • SPM, DPS, roll and surge recorded as chart-ready fields in Garmin Connect, plus avg stroke rate, total strokes and avg distance per stroke in the activity summary • ANT+ stroke-rate broadcast for coach displays • Touchscreen locks while paddling — spray can't stop your session • 125 Garmin devices supported, from Forerunner 55 and Instinct 2 to fenix 8 and Venu 4
COACHING PLATFORM (PILOT SQUADS ONLY) Structured workouts — pieces, rests, SR/pace/HR target bands, live compliance — sync to the watch for squads on the Locus Fit coaching platform. This side is still being refined with our pilot squad and isn't self-serve yet; coaches who want in can reach out at locus.fit.
IMPORTANT — MOUNT YOUR WATCH Stroke detection assumes the watch is rigidly attached to the boat (foredeck mount, rail mount, or factory mount point). Wrist wear or taped-on rigs degrade the signal. Visit locus.fit for mounting options.
Free paddling mode works out of the box: pick your sport, press start, paddle.

What's new
Auto Lap: distance split alerts, by feature request from a Forerunner 165 paddler. Settings -- Auto Lap gives you a lap every 100 m, 250 m, 500 m or 1 km in free paddling. Each split vibrates (tone optional), records a real lap so Garmin Connect shows your splits, and pops up the split time, total time and that split's average heart rate — just like the per-kilometre alert on a run. Any button clears the banner early. Not available on the Instinct 2 / Descent G1 edition (memory).
46 new devices (125 total): Forerunner 70/170/245/645/735XT/745/935/945, fenix 5S/5X/5S Plus/5X Plus/Chronos, vivoactive HR and the vivoactive 3 Music/LTE variants, venu Sq 1/2 and venu X1, D2 Air/Air X10/Charlie/Delta/Mach 2 Pro, Descent G1/G2/Mk1/Mk3, Approach S50/S62/S70, and the Marvel & Star Wars legacy editions. Descent G1 runs the Instinct 2 edition.
Cleaner startup on Forerunner 55/165/165 Music/945 LTE, fenix 5/5 Plus, Venu and vivoactive 5: these watches now start straight on the accelerometer stroke engine instead of trying a gyroscope they don't expose.
