Sky Map

This widget provides an interactive sky chart. A full sky star map or a first person sky view with all 98 constellations, visible bright stars and visible solar system planets is presented with orientation automatically adjusted using the watch on-board compass and based on the watch latitude and longitude. Some key features: - All 98 constellation are provided. They are split in three tiers with different colors. - The brightest stars are provided (about 50 stars) and a selection of other stars for visual effect. - the 5 solar system planets visible with the naked eye are provided (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn) - the sky color changes based on the time of day. It remains dark at night and the milky way cloud is displayed then. (The milky way does not show during the day) - The labeling of all sky objects can be selected using the settings either directly from the watch of using connect IQ. - The display updates every 2 seconds. The compass auto orientation has been slowed on purpose to prevent large jumps. If you turn rapidly, wait for the map to slowly reach your new orientation. - Two views are available: - Full sky view. Note that the compass markings should be read as "facing ..." on the bottom (see the red arrow) - first person view of the sky. This provided a 6o degree rendering of what someone is expected to see. In this mode, elevation can be controlled by tapping or using the buttons (see below) Make sure the compass is calibrated before using this widget and that you have run an activity recently with GPS for best performance. The widget can be controlled fully by touch or partially with the buttons. Touch control: - Swipe up or down will switch between the full sky map and the first person view - Swipe left will provide the settings screen to set the labeling display mode (choose what items are displayed, choose to rotate the labels automatically or choose no labels) and the time field (sidereal time, local time or no time) - Swipe right will return back when from the setting screen or exit the widget when from one of the two display modes unless the select button was pushed (see button control), in which case it will exit from the button based elevation control system. - Hold touch screen for 4 seconds to hold te orientation is settings is enabled Button control: - Push up or down will switch between the full sky map and the first person view - Push Menu (holding a few seconds) will provide settings screen to set the labeling display mode (choose what items are displayed, choose to rotate the displays automatically or choose no labels) and the time field (sidereal time, local time or no time) - Push back will return back - For adjusting elevation when in first person display mode, first push the start/stop button. Two blinking arrows will appear. Use the up and down button to go up or down in elevation. To exit from this mode (so that you can switch between full map or first person view) push the back button once (twice would exit the widget). Note that touch can always be used even when using buttons. This widget has settings to control what labels are displayed and to control what is provided in the time field. In first person view, the RA and Dec grid labels can also be added. Bakckground light can be controlled for MIPs devices. Orientation lock from holding the touch screen can be enabled/disabled.
