An absorption spectrum of the body. Metrics cut dark lines into a bright band and time is read from the emission vernier. SPECTRA borrows the grammar of a spectrometer. A bright continuum band crosses the dial. Each body metric owns a fixed position along it, and cuts a dark absorption line down into the band whose depth is that metric measured against its own range. Reading the face is reading which lines are deep. Below the band, two bright emission lines on a graduated strip give the hour and the minute as a vernier, with ghost numerals above for the times you want the number rather than the instrument. Configuration is calibration. You assign which metric occupies each of the four wavelength slots and set each one to a normal or wide range, which is what decides how sensitive its line is. Recalibrating the slots against your own baselines is the point rather than an afterthought. A region at the right of the band is deliberately reserved and left clean. It is where atmospheric data belongs, and an untouched continuum there means no such data, never a fabricated zero. The always on frame keeps only the vernier strip: the spectrum with the lamp off.
