IFTTT, also known as “if this then that”, is a platform that helps you do more with all your apps and devices. Make your life easier by connecting Philips Hue with IFTTT. You can create fun, relevant and personal Applets for your Philips Hue lights. When something happens, your lights can inform you. For example, you can turn your lights blue when the weather forecast indicates rain, so you remember to take an umbrella with you to work. IFTTT connects “services” to implement the logic. For the example given above, you can connect a weather forecast service (Weather Underground) to the Philips Hue service. Such a logic flow (i.e. “IF rain forecast THEN turn hue blue”) is defined as an “applet”. You can use the IFTTT app on your phone (download from the Google Play or App Store) or their website. If you just type “webhook” in the search bar of the IFTTT app on your phone, you’ll find it. In practice, a webhook is a unique web address (URL) that accepts a request from a browser or from any device connected to the internet. When this URL is requested, IFTTT recognizes it as a trigger and runs an applet (you have to create and configure the applet yourself! That can be done easily using the IFTTT app on your phone). When you are logged to your IFTTT account, access https://ifttt.com/maker_webhooks to get a key. This key is needed to construct the URLs which you’ll use to trigger your applets. As you’ll learn when reading the DOCUMENTATION (a link to the documentation will be available on that page when you are logged in), a webhook URL looks like this: https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/{event-name}/with/key/{your-IFTTT-key} You can configure an applet to turn on the lights in your bedroom when the following URL is called: https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/turnbedroomlightson/with/key/{your-IFTTT-key} Hint: after you configure the app, you can test the URL from ANY browser (e.g. Google Chrome on your phone). Please use the link "contact developer" if you have questions. . BACKUP STRATEGY The last field in the settings holds a text similar to *living room$togglelightslivingroom$1#... This field is recreated every time you change the settings. When you are satisfied with your configuration, copy this field to some safe place (e.g. send it to yourself via email). If you lose your settings (e.g. change or reset your watch, reinstall the app, etc.), you can reload everything from this text. Simply remove the "*" at the beginning and paste it in its original place. PS: don't remove or change anything besides the "*". . *!*!*!*!* What does this widget actually do? *!*!*!*!* This widget makes requests to webhooks. So, before you use it, you should configure the webhooks that will control your Philips Hue lights. If you read the previous sections carefully, you should already be able to do it. When you select an item on the main menu of the widget (e.g. “bedroom”), it makes a HTTP request to https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger/{event-name}/with/key/{your-IFTTT-key} The values of {event-name} and {your-IFTTT-key} must be configured in the widget settings. Use the Garmin Connect Mobile (or the Garmin Connect IQ Store) app on your phone to change the settings. You can also use Garmin Express on your computer.
