About

Simple data field for usage of carbs based on your metabolic profile. This app estimates how many carbs (in grams) you have already combusted during your activity. Might be very helpful for fueling to avoid running out of energy. This is how it works: Provide your metabolic profile in app settings. This should be your combustion rate of carbs (in grams per hour) for different power values (in watts). Gold standard for measuring your metabolic profile is to go through a spiroergometry in a lab, which measures O2 and CO2 concentrations in inhaled and exhaled air. If you don't have this data, use our online estimators at http://cyclingtools.de. Our estimator is based on your body weight, VO2max and vLamax. In case you don't have your values for VO2max and/or vLamax, we also have estimators for that. Just go to http://cyclingtools.de/, navigate to "Metabolic profile, insert your data and get your profile table. Transfer values from table to settings in Garmin IQ App "Simple Carbs" and you're ready to go. The app comes with sample data for an example athlete with 65kg, VO2max 67ml/min/kg and FTP around 260W. You most likely want to edit this data. Power from your power meter is averaged over intervals of 10s. Usage of carbs is calculated based on your metabolic profile given in app settings. Linear interpolation is used to get combustion rate for intermediate power values. Example: You ride with 200W for 30min. Combustion rate given in app settings for 200W is 80g/h. After your 30min ride datafield will show 40. Currently, 3 display modes are supported: 1. Display total number of carbs of current activity in grams. This is the standard mode. 2. Display current combustion rate in g/h. This mode can be used to verify your settings. If combustion rate given in app settings for 200W is 80g/h, and you ride at 200W for more than 10 seconds, data field in mode 2 should display 80g/h. 3. Alternating between mode 1 and 2 every 5 seconds.
