Hunt
· v2.1.2
About
Hunt app is an essential tool for hunters. In addition to logging your hunting activities, Hunt displays your dog's location on the map, has a ballistic calculator and a stalking tool with a wind direction display and a clear "watch face" with a sunrise/sunset indicator and a rotating compass.
Free version has all you need for hunt and dog tracking, but stalking and ballistic calculation functionality is limited. Please read further to learn how to register the application.
Usage instructions:
After starting the application, wait until a good GPS connection is acquired. This can be verified from the connection icon next to the Start menu option. Starting the application without a GPS fix will result in wrong data being displayed until the watch gets the location.
Application settings can be changed using the Connect IQ phone app. There you can manage your license keys, Open Weathermap API key (which can be obtained for free here: https://home.openweathermap.org/users/sign_up), gun and custom cartridge profiles.
Use up and down keys (or touch screen) to move between Watch, Wind and Map screens. Ballistic calculator can be accessed from the menu (long press "up" button). Other menu options (once the activity has started) include adding and listing markers, managing witch views are visible, enable/disable GPS (for still hunts) and ending the current hunting activity.
Ballistic calculator allows accurate shooting for longer distances. Paid version allows for two custom cartridge profiles (free has only one) and a growing selection of preconfigured cartridges. The distance of the free version is also limited to 300m/yds. Configure your gun and cartridge profiles in the Connect IQ app and select them to use in the watch application's Ballistics menu or select some of the preconfigured profiles.
Map view displays and tracks your current location. If a dog tracker is connected the map zooms automatically to show all tracked devices. The zoom level can be rotated using the Start button. Only one dog track is show at a time, the tracked dog can be changed using the Back/Lap button.
During the hunt, user can save their own location as a waypoint. If a dog tracker is connected there is an option to save dog’s current location.
Known issues:
1. There is no way to configure the map view within the Hunt app. This is a limitation of the device. The configuration can be done through the system menu and through a built-in activity such as Run. If there’s an issue with the map, start the Run activity and configure the map there. The next time you open Hunt, the map should be set the same way it was in the Run app. 2. There is also a known issue with Fenix 7 watches: map screen behaves in a tricky way with new fenix 7 & Epix watches with touch screen. It is usable but needs patience. This cannot probably be fixed until Garmin Map API's change.
3. After ending the hunt, the touch icon to exit the application does not work right away. Use the Select button to exit the application. I believe it is an API issue that will get fixed later.
To Register the application make a donation of 10 EUR/USD using the link below and I will email the registration code to the email provided to me by paypal. All donations go towards improving the application. Please also review the application :)
