Time as interference. Two ring gratings beat against each other and the bright fused wedge sweeps the hour. MOIRE encodes time as interference, not hands. Two concentric gratings of fine radial ticks sit on a black dial. The outer ring is fixed. The inner ring turns by one tick every minute. Where their ticks coincide, the two rings fuse into a single bright wedge, and that wedge sweeps once around the dial every hour. Twelve dots inside the gratings carry the hour, a number at the centre carries the minute directly, and a slowly filling centre disc tracks your step goal. The beat ratio is the real control. It sets how many ticks the inner grating carries, and therefore how many fused wedges exist at once: a single sweeping wedge, a twin, or three sharp ones. Changing it changes the whole texture and rhythm of the face. On always on displays MOIRE draws a separate, far sparser frame: the wedge reduced to a short arc plus the hour dots, nudged a few pixels each minute so no pixel is driven continuously. Added a plain numeric minute readout at the centre of the face. The wedge still sweeps the hour, but you no longer have to decode its position to know the minute.
