About

Respite estimates your fatigue during a long road trip and tells you when it is worth stopping — with the concrete reason, not just a timer. It uses four things your car cannot know: how long you have actually been driving, the time of day, how well you recovered last night as measured by your watch, and how much you have already consumed today before setting off — a long workout or a hard day counts, even if you slept well. After a few trips it adds your own heart-rate variability baseline while driving, which differs from your baseline at rest and during exercise. What it does · Before you leave, it tells you how long you can drive before needing a break. · While driving, a countdown and nothing else: you should not be reading your watch. · When it alerts you, it shows why: time at the wheel, your HRV against your own baseline, and your Body Battery — on waking, or what the day has consumed if that is what weighs more. · It tells a real rest stop from a fuel stop and from a traffic jam — and it knows an hour in traffic is more tiring than an hour of open road. · One dedicated action — a button, or a swipe on touch watches — for handing the wheel to someone else. · Saves the trip as an activity in Garmin Connect. What to know before installing · The app must stay open during the trip. Connect IQ does not allow passive background monitoring. · It uses battery: GPS and the optical sensor run for the whole trip. How much depends on your watch; for a long drive, start out well charged. · It needs a few weeks of use to calibrate. During that time it still works, alerts less, and tells you where it is in the process. · Calibration needs trips longer than 30 minutes, with a good pulse reading. Shorter drives are still saved as activities like any other, but they do not count towards the profile — and at the end it tells you which of the two was missing. · Everything is computed on the watch: no account, no server, no phone app. The only thing that leaves is the trip activity, which — like any activity — includes your route. You can turn it off with the "Don't record the activity" setting. What it is not: Respite is not a drowsiness detector, not a medical device and not a replacement for any safety system in your vehicle. It is a wellness tool. The absence of an alert does not mean you are fit to drive — that decision remains yours. The screenshots on this listing show example values, not measured ones.
