Lap Map Alert (Android)
· v1.1.0
About
ANDROID ONLY. iPhone will not send texts. Garmin’s own Live Event Sharing is Android-only for the same reason.
Lap Map Alert sends SMS lap updates with a Google Maps link — similar to Live Event Sharing, without Garmin Connect+.
REQUIRES the Lap Map Alert Android companion app. The watch field does nothing useful without it.
Setup:
1. Install the Android companion from Google Play and add SMS recipients.
2. Turn texts ON in the phone app before your run.
3. Add Lap Map Alert as a data field on your Run activity screen.
4. In Garmin Connect, turn Live Event Sharing OFF to avoid duplicate texts.
5. For automatic mile/km texts: in that activity’s settings, turn Laps → Auto Lap ON (distance). You can still press Lap anytime.
During a GPS activity, the watch sends start, lap, and finish events to your phone over Bluetooth. The phone composes and sends SMS using your number and carrier.
Features:
• Start, lap, and activity-end texts
• Google Maps link at each lap and at finish
• Configurable message content on the phone (time, pace, maps, optional HR / cadence / power)
• Optional short “fading” / ETA cue in SMS (off by default)
• Optional on-watch banner if a lap looks off (enable in Run → Alerts → Connect IQ Data Fields). This is not spoken in headphones; Garmin’s own lap/pace/Eat audio prompts are unchanged.
• On-watch banners (optional, not in headphones): after installing this field, Hold MENU → Activities & Apps → Run → Run Settings → Alerts → Add New → scroll to Connect IQ / Connect IQ Data Fields → Lap Map Alert. If that type is missing, update the watch field. Full steps are in the Android app Settings.
Requires Bluetooth to your Android phone during the activity.
What's new
Optional HR, cadence, and power in SMS (off by default). Optional short lap cue in texts if a split looks off. Optional on-watch banner via Run → Alerts → Connect IQ Data Fields. Still Android-only; iPhone cannot send these texts.
