About

Easily turn off and on your ANT+ tail light while riding. With the Edge devices the tail light is always on or controlled automatically, but sometimes it would be handy to be able to turn it off manually (for example when we have riders behind us or to save battery when biking off road) and then back on when it is necessary (when back on the asphalt for example). Even with the Varia RTL Radar Tail Light sometimes it is desirable to turn the rear light off, leaving the radar fully operational. ** If the field shows a 'No Network' message it means that you have not set up the light network, check the Garmin manual for that. If you have a Varia Radar remember to connect also the light, not just the radar** "Tail light field" is a data field to control the status of your ANT+ tail light and turn it on/off. It shows if the tail light is on or off, with a gray icon if the light is off and a red icon if it is on. Tapping the data field turns the light off and on. The gray icon with a red cross indicates the light network is not formed or that the tail light is not present. The status is changed only for the tail light, eventual front lights are not affected. Some users are having difficulties changing the status of the light. Tips to make it work: * Check that you are not using a screen protector. Unfortunately they can reduce the screen responsiveness to taps * Do a quick "double tap" on the field. In many cases this gets the job done! Tested (by users) on Varia TL 300/3001, Varia RTL 500/501 and Bontrager Flare RT lights.

What's new

Version 1.9 - Added support for Edge 1050 Version 1.8 - Added support for Edge 840 - Added a tone when the light is switched on/off - In some cases the light could not be turned on Version 1.7 - Added support for Edge 1040 Version 1.6 - Added support for Edge 1030 Plus Version 1.5 - Added support for Edge 830, EdgeExplore and Edge 1030 Bontrager Version 1.4 - Ever lost your rear light? The field now stores the status of the light in the activity .fit file and it's viewable on Garmin Connect. Three values are stored: 2 (light is on), 1 (light is off) and 0 (light is not present). In case you discover your light is lost, review the ride on Garmin Connect to determine the exact position it has been lost (consider the light will be 20/30 meters far from the point it has been registered as missing). - Bug fixed: error messages were not visible during night mode. Version 1.3 - Added support for Garmin Edge 1030 - New icon shows if the field has been configured for automatic turn off of the light. The icon (a small "turn on" icon inside the main light) is initially red and becomes gray when the light is turned off. - The field now shows (with an error message) if the light network has not been formed or if it is being formed. This should help troubleshooting as previously it was not possible to distinguish if the tail light was missing or if the light network was not formed. Version 1.2 - It is now possible to automatically turn off the light when the activity is started. The behaviour is optional and is configured in the data field settings page in Garmin Express or in Garmin Connect mobile. The light is turned off 5 seconds after the activity has started. It is suggested that the light network is configured for lights to be turned on at activity start, in this way the lights will just be briefly turned on at the start of a ride and then turned off. - The field now works even if the light network mode is configured as individual. When the light is turned on after being turned off, it will restore the last active mode. - A new debug option enables extended debug information to be written in the log files. Enabling debug information requires two steps: 1) Enable the debug setting in the data field settings page in Garmin Express or in Garmin Connect mobile 2) Create an empty file named TailLightField.txt in the folder GarminAppsLogs of your Garmin device. Debug log information will be written in that file and in the file TailLightField.bak. Version 1.1 - Added tail light battery status. An icon in the field shows the status of the light battery.
