About

A "virtual" Race Pacer that allows you to pace a running race or a training target distance, and display as large digit field. This is a new version of my "Race Pacer" Data Field, with the same functional features, but instead displays a single selectable value as a "large" digit display. The settings are the same as the "Race Pacer" app, with the addition of selecting which value to display in the data field. The settings works on the basis of 2 types of position that you place the Data Field in the screen: Position 1 : Full screen, top row in 2 row screen, top & bottom row in 3 row screen. (VA-hr, top 2 rows in 3 row screen) (VA, both rows in 2 row screen) Position 2 : Bottom row in 2 row screen, middle row in 3 row screen. (VA-hr bottom row in 3 row screen) eg.Above screen shot, load data field into 2 row screen in both fields, then set app settings to Pos 1 = "Relative to pacer", Pos 2 = "Distance remaining". The virtual "Pacer" has two key features: 1) Adjusts the required pace for changes in gradient (Gradient Adjusted Pacer). So it will pace you slower up a big hill, and faster down...! 2) A "race split" can be configured, for example if you want to run a -ve split running 15 seconds/mile quicker at the finish compared to your target average. The "race split" is a "linear" progression so in this example you would run +15 secs/mile at the start, target average in the middle and -15 secs/mile at the finish, etc.. Usage: 1) Using Garmin Connect Mobile or Garmin Express set the Race Pacer App Settings for your desired race distance, target time, start elevation ("-" for current value), elevation change, "race split" and optionally GAP adjustments. Example: I want to run 10k(6.21miles) in 48min:30secs with a -ve split of -15sec/mile at finish compared to middle average. My start altitude is known to be 50 feet, and finish is 100 feet higher than start. In GCM or GE enter: Distance = 6.21 Target time = 48.5 Start elevation = 50 (use "-" if you don't know and use GPS current elevation, but can be less accurate) Start-Finish elevation change = 100 Race split = -15 (the rest defaults) For device set to statute units are miles/feet, for metric device units are km/metres. 2) Start Activity... field displays: A: "current altitude" D: "Start-Finish elevation difference" or S: "specified start altitude" D: "Start-Finish elevation difference" "race distance" in "target minutes" P: "pacer start pace"-"pacer finish pace" when "GPS Ready", check your elevation is about right (if not specified) before you hit "Start"...
