Stroke Index
· v1.0.5
About
Stroke Index (SI) measures paddle effectiveness. Used by professional athletes, this metric determines the most effective paddle to match your paddling style. Results are saved to Garmin Connect for viewing, download, and comparison.
SI is calculated by multiplying average speed by average distance per stroke. A larger SI score represents more effective and efficient paddling.
Testing your Paddle
1. Find the same stretch (and direction) of water that is approximately 2-3 minutes long or around 300 meters in length. This kind of length has been used successfully in scientific literature to detect the differences in paddle sport equipment changes.
2. Perform several test runs to minimize the margin of error. Use the lap button to mark each test.
3. View the results in Garmin Connect. Results are unique to the paddler and the test environment, but should be consistent when averaged.
