Simply Altitude

This simple widget provides an easy way to see the current altitude (elevation) as seen by your watch. By default my watch can only show elevation as a data field in an activity app. I sometimes find it useful to know my altitude separately from an activity data screen. This widget attempts to provide this. It simply reads and displays the device's current altimeter value. The altitude is shown in metres or feet according to your device settings. You change the units by changing the device settings. For example on my vívoactive® HR I follow Settings - System - Units - Elevation - Feet/Meters. Some users have reported that the app returns no data or an altitude that's way out. It is vital to ensure your device's altimeter is calibrated and working before using the widget. Some devices can be manually calibrated and some are automatic based on GPS. Read the user manual to see how to calibrate yours - running an activity that uses GPS to get a 3D GPS fix is a common technique. Ever since Garmin removed manual calibration from the vívoactive® 3 it seems to be particularly poor at giving good results. This is a link to a Garmin page describing how to calibrate it: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=FmE1UxYdn56rYdmThGbO06 Note however that Garmin themselves say, “It is not uncommon for satellite heights to be off from map elevations by +/- 400 ft.” Pressing Select when the widget is displayed makes it update. N.B. I'm only familiar with my own watch but Select is generally chosen by tapping the screen on touch screen devices, pressing the Enter key if there is one or the start/stop (top right) button on other devices. • Widget Glances mode In the new Glances mode the widget displays the altitude but no user interaction is possible. In this mode, depending on the model, screen updates might be infrequent, so there may be some lag between your real elevation and the displayed altitude.
