Average, Peak and Personal Best Power table

About
In order to become a faster cyclist, you need to know your rivals - if you think that's yesterday's you and not someone else (and own a power meter), read on:
If you could see your current performance measured in average power compared against your personal best, you could e.g. judge if you should still have reserves to go faster or in order to know in real time during cycling whether you have bested your past or need to keep on pushing.
This data field does just that by displaying a table with
- the current average power for multiple interval durations (as your average power is naturally higher for shorter durations than for longer ones),
- the maximal average power within your current ride, and
- your past personal best power - which will be automatically calculated, updated and displayed if you install this data field to your activity.
This is the updated table view of my Live Power Duration / Peak / MMP Graph datafield - if you are already using the latest version of that one, you might skip this. Otherwise, try this one first! If you are already familiar with Power Duration curves, you should then also try the Graph.
Coloring of numbers:
- Average Power is colored relative to either Peak Power or Best Power, which ever is larger,
- Peak Power is colored red if a new Personal Best has been achieved,
- The color of your Best Power shows how fresh your Best Power achievement was.
On 520+ and higher (i.e. excluding 130 and 520), you can optionally display:
- Bars behind Average and Peak Power showing the percentage relative to your Best Power in color (if your best is larger than category 1) or percentage relative to Category 1 in gray(if your best is smaller than category 1).
- Bars behind your Best Power showing your Best Power relative to a typical cyclist in Category 5 (100%) to 1 (0%) - a best power below Category 1 will be displayed as a bar to the left.
- A thin line shows the form of the Average Power, Peak Power and Best Power Power Duration/Peak Power/MMP curve with power on a linear scale to the right and time on a downward scale corresponding to the lines of the table.
The interval durations include 5s, 1min, 5min, 20min, 1hour and - on large memory devices - multiple data points in-between depending on vertical size of the data field. Your Personal Best Power is updated automatically when you are using this datafield but you can also edit manually in App Settings. The intervals used are 5s, 1m, 5m, 20m, 1h on Edge 130/520 and 1s, 2s, 3s, 5s, 10s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 1m, 1.5m, 2m, 3m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m, 30m, 40m, 1h, 80m, 100m, 2h, 2.5h, 3h on other devices. The format for date of personal best is YYMMDD.
What's new
NEW (May 9th, 2020):
- MMP calculation results are now more accurate. Average error should be below around 1%, maximal error should typically be below 2.5%. That's close to the accuracy of your power meter and I believe should be accurate enough for making decisions during your training and racing. Please be aware though that in moments of high computational load (e.g. running lots of CIQ apps, doing route searching or receiving BT notifications) Garmin might not pass power data frequently enough to this app, causing the calculations to be lower than they should be.
Released early May 2020 - please let me know if you see any issues.
