About
Aviator Watch Face – Live METAR & TAF at a Glance
Bring real-time aviation weather to your wrist with Aviator Watch Face – a powerful, pilot-friendly display that blends analog timekeeping with smart, aviation-grade weather insights.
KEY FEATURES
Live METAR & TAF: Input your favorite airport (ICAO code) to receive updated METAR and TAF data every 5 minutes – decoded and displayed directly on your watch.
Flight Rule Forecast Ring: A unique 12-hour arc visualizes upcoming TAF "becoming" conditions, aligned with your local time. Arcs are color-coded by flight category (VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR), with customizable colors.
Dual Time Zones: Easily track local and secondary time zones with both analog and digital displays, supporting 12/24h formats.
Data at a Glance: View wind speed/direction, temperature, visibility, and cloud cover in clean, circular widgets around the watch face.
Whether you're flying VFR or just tracking conditions at your favorite field, this watch face is designed for pilots who want situational awareness - right on the wrist.
HOW TO SET UP
1. Open ConnectIQ mobile app - "Device" - "My Watch Faces".
2. Select the "METAR/TAF Pilot (Aviation Weather)" app in the list and tap "Settings".
After adjusting the settings, tap "Back," followed by "Save." Make sure a message saying "Settings successfully saved!" appears.
FLIGHT RULES FORECAST ARCS
The arc around the watch face is one of the most powerful features of this aviation watch face - it gives you a 12-hour forecast at a glance, perfectly aligned with your local time and watch hands.
What It Shows
A circular forecast ring around the edge of the watch dial represents the next 12 hours, starting from the current time. Each segment of the arc is color-coded based on flight rules (VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR), derived from decoded TAF data. The arc gives a visual timeline of expected weather conditions, letting you see when flying conditions are expected to improve or deteriorate.
How It Works
When you input an airport (ICAO code), the watch fetches the latest TAF forecast and parses it onboard.
The TAF “BECMG” and “TEMPO” groups are used to define changing weather conditions over time.
Each TAF time window is mapped to a specific time span (e.g., 14:00–18:00 UTC), and converted to your local time zone for display.
The ring is then divided accordingly. For example:
- 14:00 – 16:00 VFR → Green Arc
- 16:00 – 18:00 MVFR → Blue Arc
- 18:00 – 22:00 IFR → Red Arc
Arc Alignment
The arc is anchored to the current hour hand - just like a compass rose aligned with North.
For example, if it’s 3 PM, the arc starting at the 3 o’clock position will represent now, and the arc wraps clockwise around the dial for the next 12 hours (until 3 AM).
This makes it super intuitive: just glance where the hour hand is pointing, and the arc color at that point tells you what kind of flying weather to expect at that time.
Customization
Colors for each flight rule are user-customizable in settings, but default to standard aviation:
- VFR – Green
- MVFR – Blue
- IFR – Red
- LIFR – Magenta
You can change them for better contrast or personal preference.
Technical Note
- The backgrounds (world map, terrain, etc.) only work with AMOLED displays. If you don't have one, the background will be black and won't change.
