About

A garmin watch datafield that shows a breadcrumb trail with optional map. Especially valuable for users with Garmin devices that do not have built-in map support. Suitable for both on- and off-grid exploration, with customizable maps and route following capabilities. Donations are always welcome, but not required: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/pauljohnston2025 Please use the `Contact Developer` Button if you have any issues, id be happy to help. Companion app: The companion app is available on my github: https://github.com/pauljohnston2025/breadcrumb-mobile/releases/latest Settings detailed explaination: https://github.com/pauljohnston2025/breadcrumb-garmin/blob/master/settings.md NOTE: Map support is disabled by default, but can be turned on in app settings, this is because map tile loading is memory intensive and may cause crashes on some devices. Read the relevant settings documentation closely, it is easy to crash the app with poor settings choices. Particulrly pay close attention to Tile Cache Size, this MUST be set by the user, even when picking a map selection. Offline map tiles are now supported directly on the watch (for a very limited area) see `Offline Tile Storage` in the settings ducumentation. Low memory devices only support tile servers from the watch (no offline tile storage or companion app tile servers) The companion app unlocks powerful features such as offline map support and route loading. Currently, the companion app is only available on Android, but contributions from iOS developers are highly welcomed to expand platform support and bring these functionalities to a wider audience. This is a datafield, not a full fledged app, it runs in the context of native activity. The datafield is expected to be used to cover the full available area of a round watchface. It will still work with non-round devices or partial layouts, but the full feature set of the ui will not be possible due to the limited space. To add datafield to a native app: * Open the app (eg. running), you do not have to start the activity, just open it. * Long press to open settings (or use the touchscreen to press settings) * Navigate to Data Screens * Select screen * Choose layout - recommended full screen layout * Edit data fields - choose the 'BreadCrumbDataField' from the 'ConnectIQ Fields' menu A more thorough explaination for a different app can be found at: https://support.garmin.com/en-AU/?faq=3HkHX1wT6U7TeNB7YHfiT7&identifier=707572&searchQuery=data%20field&tab=topics To edit settings from on device (on venu series): * Ensure the data field is added to your activity of choice * Open the app (eg. running). DO NOT start the activity, you can only edit before activity start. * Use touch screen to slide up settings. DO NOT long press, as that only gives you access to the run settings (layouts etc.), not our settings * You should now see a menu 'ConnectIQ Fields' * From here we can select 'BreadCrumbDataField' and modify our settings Settings can now also be now be edited through the alerts menu (on venu series): * Ensure the data field is added to your activity of choice * Open the app (eg. running). Start the activity. * Long press the bottom button to open run settings * Click Alerts / Add new * Scroll down to 'Connect IQ' * From here we can select 'BreadCrumbDataField' and modify our settings * Opening the settings again can be found in the alerts tab (click 'BreadCrumbDataField' then modify settings) Due to an issue with garmins array settings the routes may only be edited from the on watch settings (or the companion app), they can be viewed from the connectiq page, but any modification errors on garmins end. # Map Tiles Powered by Esri: https://www.esri.com OpenStreetMap: https://openstreetmap.org/copyright OpenTopoMap: https://opentopomap.org/about Carto: https://carto.com/attribution OpenMapTiles: https://openmaptiles.org Stadia Maps: https://stadiamaps.com Mapy: https://mapy.com
