Digital Vault turns your wrist into a sealed steel case with a fully exposed
mechanical movement hiding underneath.
At rest, the screen shows nothing but a clean black face with bold digital
time and an elegant script date beneath it — minimal, battery-friendly, and
always legible in Always-On mode. Raise your wrist (or tap the screen, if
you've switched to that trigger) and, after a brief two-second pause, a round
mechanical vault wheel spins up and settles into place, then the vault doors
slide slowly apart to reveal a fully exposed skeleton movement: dozens of
gears, bridges, and jewels, with one genuine gear turning in place while the
vault stays open. After five seconds the doors slide shut again, the wheel
spins the other way to re-lock it, and the time and date fade back in.
**Highlights:**
- A full opening-and-closing sequence: a short pause, the time and date fade
out, a round mechanical vault wheel winds up and spins to a stop, the vault
doors slide slowly open to reveal the exposed movement underneath with one
gear rotating in real time, then after a few seconds the doors slide shut,
the wheel spins the other way to re-lock, and the time and date fade back in
- Recognizable vault-door detailing: each door has a machined meeting edge
with a raised bevel and a row of rivets, so the sliding panels read as an
actual hinged door rather than a plain black curtain
- Two selectable opening triggers: the standard wrist-raise gesture, or a
single tap on the screen (touchscreen models only — automatically falls
back to wrist-raise on non-touchscreen devices, so the vault always opens)
- Configurable door-opening/closing duration (500ms-2 seconds) and hold-open
duration (2-15 seconds) — tune both to taste in Garmin Connect
- Wrist Gesture cooldown (0-60 seconds, default 10s): after the vault settles
shut, a repeat raise-to-wake within the cooldown window is ignored, so a
twitchy wrist doesn't keep retriggering the sequence back-to-back
- Independent color AND font pickers for the time and the date, each with
the full 64-color palette your device supports and a choice of fifteen type
styles — from clean system numerals to an elegant script face, plus a thick
7-segment "Digital Bold" face (three sizes) and its subtler dot-matrix
companion "Digital Subtle" (three sizes) for a classic digital-watch look,
mixed and matched however you like. The date defaults to the elegant
script style.
- Battery-friendly: in Always-On mode you only see the minimal black face
with the time and date, no continuous animation
- Broad round-watch support: the fēnix 7 series, fēnix 6 / 6 Pro, fēnix 8
Solar, Forerunner 255 / 255 Music / 955, vívoactive 4, Descent Mk2, and
Enduro / Enduro 3
*Note: the single-tap trigger requires a touchscreen. On devices without one,
this setting automatically behaves like the wrist-raise trigger instead — a
long-press trigger isn't offered because watch faces can't intercept a
genuine press-and-hold, that gesture is reserved by the system.*
