About

If you are experiencing difficulties or having trouble getting it to work with your Garmin device, please contact developer (and leave your email) and we will get back to you as soon as is convenient. This app allows you to run GPS-based Orienteering or Land Navigation courses! -Instructions at https://www.landnavapp.com/instructions.html (with inline google translate support) -Graphical user interface -For use with paper Map and Compass (for navigation practice and gps-based landnav competitions) -Multi-course events and extra/dummy-controls supported -Load course data manually or from the web using companion app "GP Loader" -Instructions translatable into many languages (see link below) Download the app and input (your own) GPS course data into the settings. Then run the app and wait for GPS signal. Follow the on-screen instructions and press LAP to begin navigation mode. (to close the app while in navigation mode, press MENU or on some watches press and hold UP button, then select exit) Unlike other apps, G-Punch DOES NOT help you navigate. Rather it displays the "clue" and leaves the rest to you. The clue can be MGRS, UK OSGB / BNG, OSI Ireland, Irish Transverse Mercator ITM grid coordinates, latitude & longitude, or Orienteering clues (depending upon the settings; not ideal for smaller terrain features). These many "clue" options allow the use of regular government/commercial maps (instead of orienteering maps) to conduct navigation, for fun or competition! When you are within "visual" distance of a control (which varies between 15-40m), the watch emits a notification and an arrow will appear pointing towards the control. You must move closer in order to "arrive" at, and identify the control. In order to "punch" the control and begin the next leg, press the LAP button. To complete the activity successfully, you must navigate to all the required controls as quickly as possible. After completing the activity by punching the last control, results are shown on the app, and uploaded to Garmin Connect and other linked services such as Attackpoint. G-Punch supports classic (controls must be punched in order), score-o (controls can be punched in any order), and hybrid formats including control "boxes", butterfly controls, as well as dummy not-in-play controls. It also supports score values, time limit, and penalties for finishing over the time limit. GPS-based Orienteering may be less precise than regular Orienteering, but we hope this app will inspire more people to experience Orienteering, improve map and compass navigation skills, or just get outside and have some fun!
