About

!!!! WARNING !!!!: This app is intended only as an in-flight aid and should NOT be used as a primary information source. This app contains a barometric altimeter, as such it will NOT give usable altitude data in a pressurized aircraft. WARNING: Blood Oxygen Saturation reading (SpO2) is intended only as an in-flight aid, smartwatch sensors still have shortcomings that can limit the accuracy of the reading. !!! WARNING !!! DISCLAIMER !!! WARNING !!! DISCLAIMER !!! WARNING !!! DESCRIPTION: This free and open-source application provides Variometer functions and Blood Oxygen Saturation readings adapted to free flight activities. It is based on My Vario Lite application by Yannick Dutertre and the excellent open-source Garmin IQ GliderSK application by Cedric Dufour (licensed under GPL v3.0, just like GlideApp is), dropping a lot of features for a simpler/leaner experience, while adding many improvements for free flight activities. GlideApp is a BACKUP source of information and should ALWAYS be paired with specialized variometer equipment! Watch sensors are simply not precise enough and THIS APP SHOULD NOT BE USED AS A PRIMARY FLIGHT INSTRUMENT! Please read the manual: https://github.com/pacastro/GlideApp/blob/main/USAGE 1. Dashboards Multiple views/dashboards are available. - a Global view, displaying all flight data in a single pane: altitude, ground and vertical speeds, finesse, heading, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) readings, wind direction and speed estimate, if available (wind direction and speed are computed on the fly based on groundspeeds when circling, blood oxygen saturation can be hard to get with a moving watch hand) - a Variometer view, where the vertical speed can be visually seen - a Varioplot/thermal assistant view, allowing to keep track of your ascent/descentrate along your flight path. This view can optionally include a detected thermalcore to help keep within the thermal - a Map view, tracking you position along the enabled maps on your device (not available on devices with No Mapping features) - a Timer view, shows starting recording time, elapsed time, distance and ascent, with a moving over time chart display showing different configurable variables - a Log view, allowing to keep track of your last activities (unavailable during flight) including flight start and end times, maximum and minimum altitudes, etc. An option to auto-switch to and from the varioplot/thermal assistant view automa-tically (based on circling auto-detection) is available. 2. Tone and vibration curves The application makes use of the watch beeps and vibrations (if available). - Variable-frequency tones to "sound" your ascent rate, as well as vibration-based "tones" to fly in silence. These tones follow closely some popular variometer tone curves (sound frequency/pitch, tone to tone or vibration to vibration pause time, tone/vibration length - all depending on vertical speed) - a minimum climb rate setting is available, under which sounds or vibrations won't be triggered - a sink rate threshold setting is available, for warning of strong sink 3. Under the hood - The application uses a Kalman filter for fast and accurate filtering of altitude and vertical speed (compared to the SMA filter used by GliderSK originally) - The smoothing (and latency) applied by the Kalman filter can be changed in the settings - The default settings are optimized for a comfortable experience out of the box USAGE: You really, really want to go through the Manual before first use, and test the application at home! See below USAGE manual. https://github.com/pacastro/GlideApp/blob/main/USAGE NOTES: I have tested this app extensively in flight to test all of the features. However, please remember that this app is intended only as an in-flight aid and should NOT be used as a primary information source. And should NOT be used in a pressurized aircraft.

What's new

* 2.41: - Added swipe left action for Settings Menu display on Vivoactive 6 (and Venu 4) works on screens displaying the default action menu indicator for this watches (vertical bar in the right-center side of screen) - Updated for Fenix 8 Pro and Venu 4 * 2.4: - Added Delete Last log option for deleting only the last entry - Active Chart variables in app can be selected in watch "Settings/Chart/Active vars" menu - Greatly simplified and faster settings change for: some variometer variables, chart displayed var and all units - Updated for Forerunner 570 & 970 and Vivoactive 6 - Fixed minor bugs * 2.3: - Added SpO2 Status indicator to variometer view - Added carousel page indicator (shows current page position among all available pages) - On activity save, app goes to Timers page for reviewing last activity statistics, cycling automatically through all chart variables (if enabled) every 5 seconds Select button offers actions: done, back, clear (see Usage for details), in this review mode Back button no longer cycles through chart variables (if enabled), it exits app - Removed track flight path option in Map view, not working as expected in real devices and Map view has its own inbuilt path tracking - Updated for Approach S50 and Venu watches - Lowered compatability to SDK 3.1 watches, higher Api functuonality will be disabled: - no Pulse Oximetry, no weather info on watches without those features - new compatible watches: D2 Air, D2 Delta PX-S, Descent Mk1, Forerunner 645 music, Fenix 5-5S-5X Plus (5x Plus has pulse oximetry), Vivoactive 3 music - Small optimizations and fixed minor bugs * 2.2: - New Variometer design (see Usage for more details): - White strip (or black for white background) with range labels - Main needle for current vertical speed, green ascent/red descent - Optional secondary needle for kinetic energy compensated variations (dE, off by default) - Text display for last 10, 20 or 30 seconds average vertical speed (or current data) - Green T bug marking avg for last thermal or avg for last n seconds - Current g load in diamond indicator - Min Max g load inner strip - Change range with back button (during activity recording) - Added toogle to track/not track flight path in Map view - Fixed minor bugs * 2.1: - Bigger font for units display in bigger screen watches (over 390x390) - Small optimizations and fixed minor bugs * 2.0: - Updated UI using Menu2 functionality in settings/activity menu: - Added toogles for on/off settings - Added sublabels to display current setting values - Added Start/Pause/Save/Discard graphics trying to emulate native apps - Updated confirmation dialogs - Added chart to the timers view (center area) - Selectable variable to display: Altitude/Total ascent/VertSpeed/Speed/HeartRate/Accel (g) - Toogle to display/not display Min Max values on chart - Toogle to display/not display current value on center of chart - Toogle to start chart on activity recording or always on - Toogle to display last 4 hrs or last 30 min of data (auto expand X & Y axis) - Added Moving Map view (option available for devices with maps) - For Varioplot, moved zoom mode button to the Select button (same as on moving map) - Added Info view (on Settings menu) that shows current location (Lat/Lon), sunrise-sunset times, civil twilight times, current time (local&utc), current weather (provided by Garmin Weather) and a chart with the forecasted next 12 hr temperatures ...
