LCARS Orbital Scan (Star Trek)
· v1.0.11
About
For all Star Trek - obsessed nerds, having an LCARS terminal on your wrist is a must, if you passing the final frontier to boldly go where no one has gone before. Engage!
Watch face with LCARS-style based on the TV series Star Trek.
The earth is displayed as an animated 3D model. The following options my be set via Garmin Express or Connect IQ:
- rotation speed (standard = no rotation)
- stagger of polar axis (your actual position will not disappear behind the horizon)
- rendering of landmasses
- thickness of lines of landmasses
- colour of grid lines
- rendering of day, night and dawn zones
- rendering of current position
Warning: If you enable rotation, the battery drains much faster, because there round about 1000 points that must be calculated for the 3D modelling every second (lat/lon-grid lines, points of landmasses and their position in relation to the sun, dawn zones). With “no rotation” the 3D model is updated once a minute: that will keep the drain of battery normal.
Note: The rotation animation is not smooth. A watch face can only be updated once a second. The 3D model will be turned around its polar axis in the selected steps.
With a 3-seconds-press on the earth (only watches with touch screen) the forecast of weather, day, night and dawn zones for the next 10 hours will be displayed in steps of 1 hour per second.
Description of values:
BAT: battery status (percent, hours or both)
DAT: date (tt mm yy / mm tt yy / yy mm dd)
TME: time (24h or 12h), day of week or seconds
SUN: time of next sun event and solar intensity (scale below the time)
HUM: relative humidity in %
DP: dewpoint (°C or °F)
PCP: probability of precipitation in %
WND: wind direction and speed (km/h, mph or kts)
PRS: air pressure (hpa or inch mercury)
TMP: temperature (°C or °F)
- top row: min (blue), max (red), feels like (green),
- second row: actual temperature
CLD: cloud cover in %
UVI: UV index
MSG: counter for messages
Requirement: To get the weather data a Bluetooth connection to an appropriate device with internet connection (e.g. mobile phone, notebook) is necessary.
The display formats can be changes via Garmin Express or Connect IQ.
Note: If there are no weather data displayed or the 3D model shows not your current position, then there is no actual GPS position available. To solve that, open an app, that provides GPS data (e.g. map, outdoor activity, etc). Wait until that app has received a proper GPS signal. Close the app and go back to the LCARS watch face. The watch face will synchronize the new GPS position within one minute.
Dedicated to my beloved family.
Special thanks to Gene Roddenberry & Michael Okuda for the best TV series ever.
