Kestrel
· v1.6.0
About
Kestrel puts everything you care about on one screen, and gets out of the way.
A big bold clock, today's date, sunrise and sunset, heart rate, steps, VO2 max for running and cycling, body battery, device battery, and a stress graph along the bottom. All of it readable at a glance, none of it cluttered.
Make it yours:
- Two layouts. Max shows the full dashboard. Lite is just the clock, heart rate zones, and fitness dials.
- Icons or labels. Pick clean icon glyphs or plain text under every field. Change it right on the watch.
- The bottom graph is yours. Show your stress trend, heart rate history, body battery, or today's weather with temperature and chance of rain.
- Six accent colors, from amber to ice white.
- Every data field is swappable. Pick from 20 metrics per slot, on the watch (fenix 8 and newer) or in Garmin Connect.
- Hide what you don't use, like the battery bar.
The details done right:
- Your heart rate dial fills through your personal HR zones, resting blue to zone 5 red.
- Sunrise and sunset work even without a phone connection.
- A proper always-on mode that respects AMOLED burn-in limits.
- Times follow your 12/24 hour setting. Units follow your watch settings.
Works on 54 Garmin models, from the fenix 7 and 8 families to Forerunner, Epix, Venu, Vivoactive, Instinct 3, and MARQ.

What's new
1.6.0
- **Seconds, if you want them.** A new *Show seconds* setting puts a live seconds
readout beside the clock. It is **off by default**, so nothing changes unless you
turn it on, and it is sized to be read at a glance rather than tucked away as an
afterthought. Works in both 12- and 24-hour modes and in both styles.
- **Body Battery no longer blanks out.** A gap in the recorded sensor history — a
loose strap, a fresh reboot — could leave the Body Battery field (and, more
rarely, elevation) empty until the next good sample. The face now asks the
sensor history for its newest reading and reads past empty stretches, so the
value shows whenever your watch has one.
1.5.1
- **Sunrise/sunset times no longer get clipped in the dials.** With a 12-hour clock,
a sun time in a dial (e.g. Sunset in the Right Dial on the Lite style) drew "8:08 PM"
as one line, and the "PM" could run off the edge of the screen. The AM/PM now sits on
its own line under the time — fully on screen on every watch, in both field styles.
Thanks to the user who reported this with a photo.
- **Recovery Time has a clearer icon.** It is now a stopwatch instead of an hourglass.
1.5.0
- **A cleaner default look.** The face now ships on pure black — sharper contrast for
the data, and on AMOLED displays unlit pixels genuinely save battery.
- **The machined-panel artwork is now your choice.** Prefer the 1.4 look? Turn it back
on with the new **Show Background** switch — in Garmin Connect settings or right on
the watch (Settings menu). Same artwork, same accent tinting, nothing removed.
- **Updating from 1.4?** Your watch will show the new black look after the update. If
you miss the panel, it is one toggle away: Settings → Show Background.
- **Simplified:** the battery band no longer has a hide switch — it is always shown.
