About
Rucking for every Garmin - not just the newest ones. Real load-adjusted calories, auto-laps, and a proper activity in Garmin Connect.
Garmin only ships a native Rucking profile on its latest watches. Ruck brings it to the rest: fenix 6 Pro/7 series, Epix, Forerunner, Venu, and vivoactive owners get a dedicated ruck recorder with physiology that actually accounts for the weight on your back.
Why load-adjusted calories matter: a 35 lb ruck can nearly double the energy cost of a walk, but a normal walking/hiking activity has no idea you're carrying anything. Ruck uses the Pandolf load-carriage equation - the military-research standard - combining your body weight (from your Garmin profile), your ruck weight, live speed, and live grade from the altimeter to estimate what the work actually costs you.
Treadmill? Covered. Flip on Indoor mode and enter the treadmill's speed and incline - console-exact numbers feed the same calorie model (better inputs than GPS ever gives). Adjust them live mid-session with UP/DOWN and a hold, distance is tracked from your entered speed, and auto-laps still buzz every mile.
On the watch:
- Set your ruck weight in seconds (remembered for next time)
- GPS status on the start screen so you leave with a lock
- Live screen: session timer, distance, pace, heart rate, and load-adjusted calories
- Automatic lap with a double buzz every mile (or km, following your watch units)
- BACK adds a manual lap; START pauses to a Resume / Save / Discard menu
- A second screen (UP/DOWN) with the time of day, elapsed time, pack weight, terrain and heart rate, so you never have to leave the session to check the clock
- Works with buttons or touch
In Garmin Connect:
- Saves as a hiking-type activity named "Ruck" with your GPS track, heart rate, and elevation
- Ruck Weight and Load-Adjusted Calories appear right in the activity summary
- A lap every mile so you can see your pacing
No phone app, no account, no subscription. Set your weight, start walking.

What's new
A second screen while you ruck.
Press UP or DOWN during an outdoor ruck to swap between the ruck screen and a data page: the time of day in large digits, plus elapsed time, pack weight, terrain, heart rate and battery. Two dots at the bottom show which page you are on, and the ruck screen itself stays uncluttered. Treadmill rucks keep the time of day on the main screen, since UP, DOWN and MENU are already busy adjusting speed and incline there.
Indoor or outdoor is now the first thing you pick when setting up, since it decides everything else - GPS, distance and terrain. Choose indoor and the terrain is set to TREAD for you, so there is nothing else to think about on a treadmill.
Screen fixes: text no longer overlaps on the setup screen or during a treadmill ruck. Body weight has come off the setup screen (it comes from your watch profile and is not set here), and on a treadmill the top line now shows your speed and incline.
Saving now closes the app for you. The result stays up for a moment, then the app exits and hands your watch back.
