About

WaxOn–WaxOff is a Garmin Connect IQ data field designed for cyclists who use waxed chains and want a simple way to track when their chain is due for re-waxing. The data field automatically accumulates your riding time or distance across activities since the chain was last waxed. During each ride, it displays a clear colour-coded status so you can check the condition of your chain at a glance: * **Green:** The chain is within the recommended wax-life range. * **Amber:** The chain is approaching the recommended re-waxing point. * **Red:** The recommended wax-life range has been exceeded and the chain should be re-waxed. WaxOn–WaxOff includes profiles for SILCA Standard, Endurance and Speed wax. Each profile uses service-life guidance appropriate to that wax type. Using the Garmin Connect IQ app, you can: * Select the wax profile currently applied to your chain. * Choose whether to track moving time or distance. * Configure when the amber warning should appear. * Reset the accumulator after waxing or re-waxing your chain. Once configured, add WaxOn–WaxOff to a data screen in your Garmin cycling activity profile. The accumulator updates while the activity is running and retains the total between rides. ### Important device limitation WaxOn–WaxOff stores and calculates its accumulated time or distance locally on the Garmin device. The count is therefore maintained **per device** and is not automatically synchronized between multiple Garmin devices. When using more than one Garmin device, each device will maintain its own independent accumulator. Activities recorded on one device will not update the count stored on another device. You should select one primary device for tracking your chain usage, or manually manage and reset the accumulator separately on each device. The accumulator may also need to be reset if you replace your Garmin device, reinstall the data field, or clear the application’s stored settings. WaxOn–WaxOff is intended as a practical maintenance guide. Actual wax life can vary depending on weather, road conditions, contamination, drivetrain cleanliness, riding environment and chain preparation. Inspect and maintain your chain as needed rather than relying solely on the displayed status.
