BASALT - Retro LCD Field Watch

A digital watch face for transflective, always-on displays. Big segment digits, a strict grid, nothing that moves when you are not looking. Simple, tactical, military - the plain style of a field instrument, built for legibility rather than decoration. Every glyph is drawn by hand from segments, not a system font. That is what these panels render best: hard edges, no anti-aliasing. FONTS Four hand-drawn faces: LCD 7-segment, Block, Block v2 (wider digits, flagged one) and 5x7 dot matrix - plus the watch's own built-in System font, if you prefer the native look. Each data field can use its own font, and the seconds can use a different font than the time. FIELDS Four fields you can point at any of 22 data sources, or switch off entirely: top edge, above the time, the date row, and the sub-dial or bottom row. Sources: weather and temperature, notifications, battery percent, battery days, steps, heart rate, Body Battery, recovery time, stress, calories, distance, floors, sunrise and sunset, chance of rain, wind speed, forecast high and low, altitude, pressure, UTC time with offset, solar intensity, day of month, day of year, ISO week, moon age. TIME 24h or 12h. Hide the seconds and the time re-centres. Turn the colon off and the digit positions stay put, the way an LCD electrode goes dark. Inverted mode fills a band across the screen and knocks the digits out of it. SIZE Five steps per element, from 75 to 125 percent. The whole glyph scales, so the proportions hold. DETAILS Faint unlit segments behind the digits, in five strengths, on colour displays. Hand-drawn weather icons: smooth bitmap images on the colour models, pixel art on Instinct 3 / E and the other 1-bit models. Optional lines above and below the time. White background mode. Alarm, Bluetooth and Do Not Disturb icons next to the date, each switchable. Per-field colour is available if you want it. Units follow the watch settings. I may not be able to act on it right away, but I read every report, and several recent features started as user requests. Two notes: Garmin's form does not pass your address to me, so please include a way to reach you if you would like a reply, and please mention your BASALT version (the last line of the on-watch settings menu). If settings changed from the phone app do not show up on the watch, try changing them from the watch itself (hold MENU on the face, Watch Face, BASALT, Customize) or restart the watch once - both work around a phone-sync hiccup.

2.5.0 - New: Seconds - Mode. "Always" (default, as before), "Only while the wrist is raised" (the seconds slot stays empty while the watch sleeps - no per-second work at all in low-power mode, the biggest battery saving this face can offer) or "Hide during Do Not Disturb". The time never moves; the slot is simply left blank. Set it from the phone app or the on-watch menu (Time - Seconds - Mode). Not available on Instinct 2 / 2S / 2X (no memory left; the setting is ignored there). - New data source: "Time until sunrise / sunset" (h:mm, labelled DAWN or DUSK) for any field - requested by an Instinct 3 Tactical user, thank you. Not available on Instinct 2 / 2S / 2X or in the Instinct sub-dial. - Status icons on fenix 7 / 8 / 9 Pro Solar, Enduro 3 and Forerunner 255 / 955: the alarm clock, Do Not Disturb and a new sleep-mode icon (purple moon) are now the very pixels the watch uses on its controls screen - orange, red and purple, no dithering. They shrink with the Below-time Size 1 / 2 and never enlarge. Alarm and Do Not Disturb icons are now on by default on round models too (Bluetooth stays off; all three can be switched in the settings). - Weather: the thunderstorm icon is gone - it hid whether it was actually raining or just cloudy. Thunderstorms now show as rain, scattered thunderstorms as showers, "chance of thunderstorms" as cloudy. - Instinct 3 / E: to fit the new options within these models' 64 KB, the night-time moon icon for clear skies was removed (the sun icon is shown instead). Everything else, weekday letters included, is unchanged. - Body Battery: a reading older than one hour now shows "--" instead of staying on screen indefinitely (short gaps still keep the last value). - Also: the on-watch "Line" row now follows the font of that element; the per-second redraw no longer clips the right edge of the seconds in shrunk layouts; an unreadable size setting falls back to the phone app's default; release checks tightened. Nothing moves. - Reporting a problem via Contact Developer? Please include your BASALT version (the last line of the on-watch settings menu) and a way to reach you - Garmin's form does not pass your address to the developer. Release history, in case you skipped versions: 2.4.6 - Fixed: saving from the phone app could send the face back to its default look. If your text looks one step smaller after updating from 1.x, pick the size once more and it stays. 2.4.5 - Fixed: Body Battery flickered between the value and "--". 2.4.4 - Fixed (Instinct 3 / E): settings could refuse to stick, and changing a font or field could crash the face (out of memory). "Reset all settings" was dropped from the on-watch menu on those models to free 1.8 KB. 2.4.3 - Fixed: settings saved from the Android app could be ignored by the watch. 2.4.0 - 2.4.2 - Time size setting reworked (Block v2 seconds 1 / 7 alike, sizes barely stepping, stroke weight drifting with size - all fixed); single-digit 24h hour drops its leading zero; fenix 9 Pro Solar added. 2.3.0 - Fixed: on Instinct 2 / 2S / 2X, settings changed from the phone app could quietly revert (the final write ran out of memory). New: colour for the time lines; version shown on the menu's last line. 2.1 - 2.2 - Fixed: 2.0.0 did not load at all on Instinct 2 / 2S / 2X; seconds vanishing on Instinct 3; on-watch menu crashes on Instinct 3 / E; much lower battery drain from the seconds. New: per-field fonts, System font, redesigned weather icons, Bluetooth / DND / alarm clock icons. 2.0.0 - Fixed: sunrise / sunset never updated (missing location permission).
