HC Route Power Pacer
· vv2.0h
About
HC Route Power Pacer is a pacing-support data field for Garmin Edge devices. It brings the gradient charts, target times, and pacing notes traditionally attached to your stem or handlebar onto your Edge screen.
Configure a course of up to 200 km and display remaining distance, current and next gradients, and target power. The full-course profile is color-coded by gradient and includes a position marker. Follow a prepared plan during hill-climb races and long rides.
[COURSE SETTINGS]
Create course settings with the free HCRPP V2 Generator:
https://hcrpp.netlify.app
Store four courses—one Custom Course and Presets 1 through 3—and select one with Course Preset. Each course can contain:
- Course name and distance
- Gradient for each 1 km segment
- Distance-based target-power steps
- Messages at specified distances
- GPS checkpoints
Target power assigns wattage up to each specified distance. A 0 W section is treated as Free. Up to 10 full-screen messages can be configured for nutrition, pacing changes, warnings, and other reminders.
[GPS CHECKPOINTS]
Progress is primarily distance-based, using the activity distance reported by Garmin. Up to 10 optional GPS checkpoints can be added.
The app monitors the next checkpoint. Passing within its radius corrects the internal course distance to the assigned distance. The correction applies to remaining distance, gradients, target power, messages, ETA, and the position marker.
GPS checkpoints correct distance drift; they do not provide route guidance or turn-by-turn navigation.
[TARGET POWER AND ALERTS]
- Target-step change popup with configurable duration, format, and sound
- Upper and lower target-power alerts
- Evaluation using 1- to 30-second average power
- Optional heart-rate and cadence conditions to suppress unnecessary low-power alerts
- Configurable alert interval and tones
A power meter is required for power features. Heart-rate and cadence conditions require the corresponding sensors or data.
[ETA]
Two modes are available:
- Elapsed Avg: based on actual average pace
- Power Model: based on gradient, target power, rider/bike weight, Crr, CdA, and air density
Show estimated finish time or remaining time. If Power Model cannot calculate a section, the app falls back to actual average pace or current speed.
[DISPLAY SETTINGS]
- White or black background
- Auto, one-line, two-line, or graph layout
- Small or Large top-value font
- Course profile on/off
- Solid, Blink, or Invert Blink position marker
- ETA and TIME in the full-height single-field layout
- Mini Field View: Draft, ETA, TIME, 3-second average power, distance, GPS CP, or Off
- Mini Field font: AUTO, XTiny, Tiny, Small, or Medium
Draft is a simple assist estimate based on gradient, speed, target-power difference, and recent speed changes.
[BASIC USE]
1. Create course settings with HCRPP V2 Generator.
2. Enter the course data in Garmin Connect / Connect IQ settings.
3. Select the course with Course Preset.
4. Add this data field to your activity profile.
5. Start recording at the course start.

[IMPORTANT]
- This app is a data field. Add it to a data screen after installation.
- A wheel speed sensor is recommended for more accurate distance and segment calculations.
- With GPS checkpoints, ETA remains unavailable until the initial synchronization checkpoint is passed.
- Gradients, target power, ETA, Draft detection, and course position are reference information for ride support.
- This app does not replace Garmin navigation or turn-by-turn directions.
- Always prioritize road conditions, traffic laws, official instructions, and your own safety judgment.
