TGWays is an analog face built around a bezel you can actually read. A bright stripe runs the whole rim, marked with sixty minute ticks and numbered every five, so the minute hand points at a scale instead of empty space. Inside it, a coloured circle rings a clean dial with four data fields in the quadrants. THE STRIPE Sixty ticks hang from the rim. Every fifth is longer, thicker and in the accent colour, and the numerals 00, 05, 10 and so on up to 55 sit inside them, each rotated to stand upright on the ring the way a bezel scale does. The tick and numeral colour is not a setting, because it cannot be one — they are drawn on the stripe, so the face works it out from the stripe's own brightness: dark ink on a light stripe, light ink on a dark one. The five-minute ticks take the accent colour only when it will actually show against the stripe you picked; when it will not, they fall back to the ink colour instead of vanishing. Numerals can be switched off if you want the ticks alone. THE HANDS Hour and minute are tapered bars with a short counterweight past the centre. The hour hand moves continuously through the hour, so at half past it sits squarely between two markers rather than jumping. The minute hand stops just short of the coloured ring: touching it, the tip and the ring read as one stroke and the hand loses its point. Each hand is drawn on a shadow one pixel wider all round, so a hand crossing a data field never runs into the digits. That shadow is normally the dial colour, and it doubles as the safety net: if you set the hands to the colour the dial already is, it switches to plain black or white so the hands never disappear into the face. The second hand is a thin line that ticks while your wrist is up and disappears when it is down — or you can switch it off entirely. FOUR DATA FIELDS One in each quadrant of the dial. Each takes any of: - Date - Steps - Heart rate - Battery - Calories - Distance - Floors - Active minutes - Digital time - Nothing Out of the box: date at the top, steps on the right, heart rate on the left, battery at the bottom. Every numeric field carries a small icon in the accent colour — a walking figure, a heart, a flame, a pin, a flight of steps, a clock. That is what tells the fields apart at a glance, since 8,432 steps and 1,842 calories are the same shape in two corners of the dial. The icons are drawn as shapes rather than shipped as images, so they stay sharp on every screen size and follow whatever accent colour you choose. Battery is drawn as the cell itself, with the percentage inside it and a bolt beside the number while you are charging. It turns amber under a third and red under a fifth, whatever accent colour you picked, so a flat battery is never something you have to read twice. Date and digital time carry no icon; they say what they are on their own, and the space goes to the string instead. Digital time follows your watch's own 12- or 24-hour setting. Distance follows your kilometres-or-miles setting. Steps and calories are grouped with thousands separators. Anything your watch cannot supply reads as two dashes rather than a false zero. The top and bottom fields put the icon beside the value on one line. The left and right fields stack the icon over the value, because those two are the narrow slots and side by side the icon would take width the number cannot spare. Minute numerals are back on the watches that were missing them — vivoactive 4S and 4, vivoactive 3 Music, Forerunner 245, 645, 745, 945 and 955, fenix 5 Plus and 6, Descent Mk2, MARQ Gen 1, Venu 2 and 2S, and the rest of the pre-Connect IQ 4 list. Those watches cannot rotate text, and the upright numerals did not fit the stripe, so they had been dropped entirely.
