Power Meter Info Widget
· v0.11-upd-u-upd8
About
**** CAUTION: STILL IN BETA PHASE. PLEASE DOWNLOAD ONLY AFTER READING AND UNDERSTANDING POSSIBLE ISSUES DESCRIBED BELOW. ****
This is a convenient way to access information of the paired and connected power meter including battery status, voltage and operating hours as a widget without having to go through the list of all paired sensors which requires more steps and also does not provide detailed information like battery voltage.
Data displayed (if transmitted by power meter):
- Battery status, voltage and operating hours.
- Hardware and Software revision.
- Manufacturer name (or ID), Model number and Serial number.
How to access widgets on Edge 820/1000 after downloading and installing:
1) Swipe downwards to display status menu from home screen or within activities.
2) Swipe left/right to display and scroll through widgets.
This takes only two operations to display and one to return.
How to access widgets on Edge 520 after downloading and installing:
1) From the home screen, press up button to display status menu.
2) Press down button until you reach "Widgets", then right/enter to select.
3) Press up/down buttons to scroll through widgets.
This takes more steps but might make sense if you have a lot of sensors paired.
Notes:
- This is still beta and has only been tested on Edge 520/820/1000.
- This has been tested with Garmin Vector2, Powertap P1, Pioneer 910, Power2Max classic and S. For Power2Max, battery information other than operating hours might not be correct, still investigating. (Thanks for letting me know.)
- Requires power meter and a power meter compatible Garmin device.
- Unluckily, crank length of paired power meters is currently not made available by Garmin to ConnectIQ apps.
- The layout has not yet been optimized for watches.
Some further thoughts:
- If the manufacturer or model is displayed as number and not text, pls message me the number together with the name of the manufacturer so that I can add it to the current lookup tables of manufacturer and model names. The complete list of manufacturer names is very long, so I have only included those that are known to me as power meter and trainer manufacturers.
- I might convert the battery information into a data field that changes background color when battery is below some threshold set by the user.
************** CAUTION **************
This app uses the AntPlus BikePower and BikePowerListener classes - that were than still new - in order to access the advanced metrics. Unluckily, I only found out later that running two apps using these classes simultaneously may lead to system instabilities. I have posted a bug report and Garmin acknowledged issues on their side but stated that it's complex and require some time to solve. The last I heard was in May; it might or might not have been resolved since then. As I was not yet able to confirm the current situation, AT THIS MOMENT I RECOMMEND NOT USING THIS TOGETHER WITH ANY CIQ APP.
If you have run into problems, deleting the apps folder usually helps. You will need a PC/Mac to do that as well as a few other tricks: Long power button press to reset the device if frozen, and booting with pressed lap button to get into mass storage mode. I recommend making a backup of all files on your Garmin to your PC/Mac before experimenting with this app to be on the safe side.
