Cutoff Guide
· v1.1.1
About
Gate Checker is a Garmin data field designed to help runners make cutoff checkpoints in marathons and ultramarathons.
During the race, you can quickly check key information on your Garmin screen, such as “How far is the next cutoff?” and “How much time do I have left?”
Even in the later stages of a race, when you may not have the time or focus to take out your phone or do the math in your head, the app keeps the most important information as simple and easy to read as possible.
Main information shown:
- Next cutoff checkpoint
- Cutoff time
- Remaining distance to the next cutoff
- Remaining time to the next cutoff
- Remaining distance to the next aid station
-----
Race Code:
This app uses a Race Code to select your race and course.
Once you enter a supported Race Code, the app will display the cutoff and aid station information for that specific race and course.
You can find Race Codes here:
https://racenavi.jpn.org/gatechecker/
-----
Setup:
1. Install Gate Checker on your Garmin device from the Connect IQ Store.
2. Check the Race Code for your race and course on the following page:
https://racenavi.jpn.org/gatechecker/
3. Open the settings screen for this data field in Garmin Connect Mobile or the Connect IQ app.
4. Enter the Race Code you checked and save it.
5. If needed, turn on LAP distance adjustment.
6. Add Gate Checker to a data screen in the running activity you plan to use on your Garmin device.
7. On race day, confirm that the Race Code is correct before the start, then begin your activity.
Some events may support multiple options such as a full marathon, ultramarathon, wave starts, or different course distances. Be sure to set the Race Code that matches the exact race and course you are running.
-----
GPS Distance Adjustment:
The app also includes a LAP-based distance adjustment feature to help when your Garmin GPS distance drifts from the official race distance.
At 5 km, 10 km, 15 km, and other 5 km interval points, you can press LAP when you actually pass that marker to correct the distance used inside the app.
This helps the app keep later cutoff displays, aid station displays, and remaining distance calculations closer to your actual race progress.
How to use LAP adjustment:
- Turn on LAP adjustment in the settings
- As you approach a 5 km marker such as 5 km, 10 km, or 15 km, “LAP TO ADJUST” will appear on the screen
- Press LAP when you actually pass that marker, and the app will correct its internal distance to that point
- After that, the correction will be reflected in later cutoff and aid displays, as well as remaining distance calculations
-----
Important:
Cutoff times and aid station information are created based on officially published race information.
However, actual conditions may differ due to last-minute race changes, weather-related course changes, organizer updates, GPS error, or other factors.
The LAP adjustment feature is a support tool intended to make GPS distance drift easier to correct during the race.
Even after adjustment, the displayed information is still for reference only and does not guarantee exact distance accuracy or checkpoint passage.
Always confirm final cutoff times, race rules, and course information on the official race website and in the official race guide.
This app does not guarantee that you will make the cutoff.
Please use it as a reference tool to support your decisions during the race.
