Sleep Alarm
· v1.1.1
About
Set how long you want to sleep. Sleep Alarm then waits until it detects that
you have actually fallen asleep, and only starts counting from that moment.
Go to bed at 23:00, take 40 minutes to drop off, and an 8-hour alarm wakes
you at 07:40 — not 07:00.
In the last 30 minutes before your target it watches for a light-sleep
moment and wakes you then, so you are less likely to be pulled out of deep
sleep.
HOW TO USE
1. Open the app when you get into bed.
2. UP / DOWN to set how long you want to sleep. START to begin.
3. Leave the app open and go to sleep. Back out of it in the morning.
Press MENU at any time to preview the alarm, so you know what it sounds
like before you trust a night to it.
HOW IT WAKES YOU
Vibration, escalating over the first 90 seconds. On fēnix it also uses the
beeper and holds the LED flashlight on at low brightness. It keeps going
until you dismiss it.
IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ
- The app must stay open on screen all night. Connect IQ does not let a
background app use the vibration motor, so there is no way around this.
- Vibration must be enabled in your watch's system settings, and Do Not
Disturb must be off. The app warns you when you start it if either is
wrong. Unlike Garmin's built-in alarms, a Connect IQ app cannot override
these.
- Sleep detection uses wrist movement and heart rate. It is an estimate, not
a sleep lab, and it tends to think you fell asleep slightly earlier than
you did. Compare its result against Garmin Connect for a few nights and
use the "Onset correction" setting to adjust it.
- Running any app all night affects the watch's own overnight metrics, and
it uses battery.
- This is not a medical device and must not be relied on for anything
safety-critical.
What's new
Fixed a bug where the app could decide you had fallen asleep while you
were still awake. Starting it while sitting up, calm and still, was
enough to trigger it — being motionless near your resting heart rate
looks a lot like sleep. It now also waits for your heart rate to drop
below the level measured in the first few minutes after you start it,
so being still is no longer enough on its own.
Fixed: on watches with two buttons, such as the vivoactive 6, the menu
could not be opened at all. Tap or swipe the left edge of the screen to
open it. A small arrow on the left now shows where.
New: Night history. In the menu, see the last 7 nights — when the app
decided you fell asleep, and when it woke you. Useful for checking it
against the sleep times in Garmin Connect.
New: Settings on the watch. Adjust everything without reaching for your
phone: sleep goal, wake window, onset correction, how far your heart
rate must drop, stillness sensitivity and the baseline window. There is
a reset-to-defaults option, and the version number is at the bottom.
Also: if it still cannot tell when you fell asleep after two hours, it
now relaxes its rules rather than falling back to the backup alarm.
