Race Notes

Ever taped a piece of paper to your stem or top tube for distances or other notes in a race? This data field allows display of simple text notes on your Garmin Edge 1000 or Edge 520. Put the data field on a separate screen that you can put in your set of displays to use during the activity. To configure, enable a new screen/layout with only one data field. Configure the data field displayed as the ConnectIQ field RaceNotes. See the section on customizing the data pages in your EDGE users manual for details if you are unfamiliar with this. The data field can be displayed on screens with a 1 field layout on the EDGE 520. Layouts with 1 or 2 fields are supported on the EDGE 1000. For layouts with more fields, only the time/distance and title will be displayed. Enter the text through the settings screen in the Garmin Mobile App or Garmin Express. The following can be entered: * Display timer/distance at the top: Check this if you want to display an extra line at the top showing the elapsed time/distance. Useful for reference if your race notes are based on time or distance. If unchecked you will have room for one extra line of notes. * Text justification: Select whether the notes text is displayed left, center or right justified. * Text size: Select the font size used to display the notes text (Tiny, Small, Medium, Large). * Title text: The title displayed at the top of the data field. * Notes text: The notes text. Several lines can be displayed. Line breaks have to be entered manually using the '/' (forward slash) as a line separator. Example: Km 23 Cobble Section/Km 45 Gravel 1300m/Km 56 Climb 6% 4km/Km 65 Sprint 350m The number of lines and data per line is dependent on device type and the text size selected. For example the Edge 1000 can display up to 27 lines of data using the Tiny text size. Otherwise nothing is displayed. Some users have reported not being able to configure the displayed text from when using Garmin Mobile connect on certain Android phones. This seems to be related to specific Android versions, Please consider setting the text via Garmin Express if you encounter this problem.
