Bloom — Spring Meadow Watch Face
· v1.0.2
About
FEATURES & DETAILS
• LIVING SKY ON REAL SUN TIMES: A procedural backdrop that shifts colors dynamically by time of day (pastel dawn, soft midday blue, rose/marigold sunset, and a starry lavender night), anchored to the actual sunrise/sunset for your location and date.
• ARCING SUN & MOON: Day/night orbital progression of a bright spring sun (with rotating rays and bloom) and a pale crescent moon, following the true day arc.
• PROCEDURAL ANIMATIONS: Drifting clouds, gently rolling green hills, and a grove of blossoming trees that rustle in the breeze over a wildflower meadow.
• DRIFTING PETALS: Blossom petals spill out of each tree's canopy and flutter to the meadow floor.
• WANDERING CRITTERS: Every so often a single visitor crosses the screen — a rabbit hops, songbirds fly, and a butterfly flits by day; a hedgehog snuffles, a fox slinks, an owl glides, and a bat flutters by night. Never more than one at a time, so the meadow stays calm. Toggle them off if you prefer a still scene.
• BEE SECONDS: A black-outlined bumblebee orbits the perimeter as the seconds indicator, drawn on top of everything else so it stays legible.
• CONFIGURABLE COMPLICATIONS: Choose what each bottom slot shows — Heart Rate, Body Battery, Device Battery, Steps, or Calories (or turn it Off) — each with a matching icon. Defaults: bottom-left = Heart Rate, bottom-right = Device Battery. A meadow-green steps bar with a live count sits below.
• HIGH-CONTRAST OUTLINES: All texts (clock, date, weather, complication values) carry a crisp black outline for readability against the dynamic backdrops.
BUILT FOR YOUR DISPLAY
Bloom adapts to your panel:
• AMOLED: smooth gradient resource fills, specular highlights, and active background illumination.
• MIP / Solar: high-contrast flat fills and optimized backdrops tuned for maximum sunlight readability.
• ADAPTIVE PERFORMANCE: the scene measures its own render time and self-tunes its detail to your watch, so it keeps animating smoothly without freezing — from flagship to entry-level.
Everything is laid out relative to your screen, so it looks right on every supported case size.
ALWAYS-ON FRIENDLY
On AMOLED, the always-on display switches to a burn-in-safe variant — dim grey time/date, thin outline representations of the complications, steps progress outline, and no visual fills or background animations. All lit pixels are shifted a few pixels each minute. MIP panels always show the full face.
SETTINGS
• Show Date — toggle the date line.
• Show Critters — let the little visitors cross the meadow, or keep the scene still.
• Step Goal Override — steps for a full meadow bar; 0 uses the watch's own step goal.
• Bottom-Left Complication — Heart Rate, Body Battery, Device Battery, Steps, Calories, or Off.
• Bottom-Right Complication — same options (default: Device Battery).
PRIVACY
Bloom uses only the SensorHistory permission to read Body Battery. It does not collect or transmit any data off your watch.
SUPPORTED DEVICES
Every Connect IQ 4.0+ round Garmin watch — Forerunner (165, 255, 265, 570, 955, 965, 970), fenix 7/8 (incl. Solar) & fenix E, epix 2 / Pro, enduro 3, Venu 2/3 (& Venu 4), Vivoactive 5/6, Instinct 3 / E / Crossover, plus Approach (golf), Descent (dive), D2 (aviation), and MARQ specialty watches. What's new
[1.0.2] - 2026-06-26
Fixed
Garbled date on non-Latin locales (e.g. Chinese on Venu 4): the date line now builds the weekday and month from their numeric values and our own English abbreviations, instead of the device's localized day_of_week/month strings. The custom Exocet label font is Latin-only, so localized CJK names had no glyphs and rendered as garbled boxes.
Version 1.0.1 — Performance & reliability
This release focuses on smoothness and battery, with no change to the look of the face.
• NO MORE FREEZING: the render path was rebuilt to stay inside Garmin's per-frame power budget. Always-on now repaints only the central time/date band each minute, and the full scene is far lighter per frame — so the face keeps running instead of locking up, especially on MIP / Solar watches.
• ADAPTIVE QUALITY: the scene now measures its own render time and self-tunes its detail (text outlines, grove detail, drifting petals, sun rays) to your hardware, so it keeps animating smoothly on every watch.
• SMOOTHER & LEANER: the AMOLED sky gradient is now cached and reused, sensor/clock/settings reads are gathered once per frame, the sunrise/sunset solve is throttled while waiting for a location fix, and several per-frame allocations were removed — all reducing battery cost and stutter.
• ROBUSTNESS: hardened the sun-math and cloud-drift code against rare edge cases that could stall the face.
• The bee seconds marker now tucks away cleanly in low-power on every device, rather than sitting frozen mid-orbit.
Thanks for wearing Bloom!
