About

Please Note: Due to time constraints and other prioroties I no longer provide updates for my datafields. All my datafields were developed because I had a personal need for them at the time and I decided to make them vailable to everyone, but I currently do not have the time to keep up with the pace of new devices being added to Garmin's lineup. Foot Pod Pace is a Data Field (this means it needs to be selected on one of the pages of an existing activity) which makes a direct connection to an ANT+ Foot Pod and depending on the system setting displays pace in min/km or minutes/mile to a resolution of 1 sec. To buy me a beer click here: paypal.me/CloggyAbroad It is generally accepted that GPS is not a suitable source for instantaneous pace information. Because of this some high end Garmin GPS watches have the ability to select the Foot Pod as the source of speed and hence pace information. Foot Pod Pace brings the same capability to mainstream Garmin devices. In addition it can be used in conjunction with GPS based pace information (Lap Pace is my personal favourite) during activities where part of the course is affected by GPS issues such as tunnels, extensive high rise buildings or thick foliage. For this to work the Foot Pod should NOT be paired to the watch. If you have previously used a Foot Pod you need to switch it off in the watch settings otherwise Foot Pod Pace will not be able to connect to it. Foot Pod Pace is user configurable. Inputs are Foot Pod ID, Enable Auto Calibration and Calibration Factor. Foot Pod ID is set to 0 to perform an initial search. Once a Foot Pod is found it will automatically change to the ID of this Foot Pod so when you're at the start of a big race it will only search for your Foot Pod. The Auto Calibration function is now working. Any time you run at least 4 km (2.5 miles) without stopping or pausing the activity and with good GPS signal coverage throughout Foot Pod Pace will calculate a Calibration Factor and write it to the settings as the 'Suggested Calibration Factor'. If Auto Calibration is enabled it will also save it as the 'Calibration Factor'. If after a run the Suggested Calibration Factor comes up as '0' this means the criteria for a successful Auto Calibration were not met. Before using and relying on the app please make sure you understand the limitations of using a Foot Pod as a pace source. The information displayed is only as good as the information transmitted by the Foot Pod and the Calibration factor YOU provide. If you use this as your sole source of pace information to guide you to a PB on a marathon and you miss it by a few seconds because Foot Pod Pace was 1 second/km out then don't come running to me (pun intended). This Data Field only works with ANT+ Foot Pods. It WILL NOT and it CAN NOT connect to a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) Foot Pod. I would appreciate any feedback regarding this Data Field.
