About

Walk a famous trail with the steps you already take, and keep it on your wrist all day. Trail Face needs the free Watch Walks app on your phone. A Connect IQ watch face cannot fetch anything from the internet on its own, so the phone is what sends the trail across. Install Watch Walks, choose a trail, and it appears here. Without the app the face still keeps good time. It will just say "No trail yet". THREE FACES, ONE APP Pick the one you want in the settings, and change it whenever you like. The Route. Your trail drawn as a line across the glass, the way a map draws one. Ground you have walked is a solid coloured path. Ground ahead is grey. Landmarks are notched along it, and a marker sits exactly where you stand. The Ridge. A mountain skyline, lit in the trail's colour as far as you have come, with the marker riding the ridge and the clock in the sky above it. The Data-rich Ring. A bold progress ring around a big clock, with four data fields you choose. IT COUNTS ON THE WATCH The face reads your step count itself, once a minute, so your position moves whether or not your phone is in the room. The phone is only how the trail gets there in the first place. IT KNOWS WHICH TRAIL Choose the Inca Trail and the face turns Andean amber. Choose the South Pole and it turns ice white. The name, the distance, the next landmark and the colour all follow the trail you picked, so two trails do not look like the same watch face. STILL A WATCH FACE The time is the largest thing on the glass. Heart rate, steps, battery, calories, floors, distance and active minutes are all available, and so are three the trail brings with it: how far you have left, how far through you are, and how long ago the trail last reached the watch. Every slot is yours to set, each with its own drawn icon. The date runs across the top of the glass on the Route and the Ridge, and sits with the time on the Ring. There is a low-power version for when your wrist is down. Free, permanently. No adverts, nothing to buy, and it collects nothing about you. The Watch Walks app is out now on Android and iPhone, free. Install it, choose a trail, and this face fills in. What's new

Three new data fields that come from the trail itself: how far you have left, how far through you are, and how long ago the trail last reached the watch. Any of the field slots can show them. The date can now run across the top of the glass on the Route and the Ridge, instead of taking a row under the time. Layout fixes across all three faces. The Ridge no longer prints the landmark line on top of the data row, and longer landmark names show in full instead of being cut short. The data row now measures itself against the round glass, so fields no longer run under the bezel on smaller watches. The marker showing where you are is drawn correctly at the very start and at the finish. A trail you have not started yet no longer draws a route line behind the clock, and long trail names are trimmed cleanly rather than running off the screen. Instinct 2, Instinct E, Instinct Solar, Instinct Crossover and Descent G1 have been removed from the supported watches. Those screens can only show black and white, so the trail line, the mountain and each trail's own colour could not be drawn legibly on them. They will come back if that can be done properly rather than badly.
